NFL Combine - How Important Is It?

I wanted to type this article because I believed the NFL Combine process constantly gets tough break because a few notable player performances. Players like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, and Rod Smith being NFL greats despite posting horrendous 40 times for their positions, and players like Mike Mamula, Courtney Brown, and Vernon Gholston who were workout warriors turned NFL "bust."

So in the combine's defensive, I just looked at the top skilled players at their positions' (wr's, db's, hb's, lb's, te's) and posted their combine result. I believe in this simple process shows the top NFL players of today's game has to at least be a top level physical specimen at their position.

NFL Best Wide Receiver - Calvin Johnson: 40 Yard Dash 4.35 seconds (NFL Combine), Vertical Jump 42.5 (Pro Day), Broad Jump 11'7 (Pro Day).|| 40 Yard Dash 2nd among wr's in '07

NFL Best Half Back - Adrian Peterson: 40 Yard Dash 4.40 seconds, Vertical Leap 38.5 inches (Combine)|| 40 Yard Dash tied for 1st among hb's in '07

NFL Best Defensive Back - Darrelle Revis: 40 Yard Dash 4.38 seconds (Pro Day), Bench Press 16 Reps (Combine), Vertical Jump 38 (Pro Day)

NFL Best Linebacker - Patrick Willis: 40 Yard Dash 4.51 seconds, Vertical Leap 39.0 inches, Three Cone 7.23

NFL Best Tight End - Jimmy Graham: 40 Yard Dash 4.56, Vert 38.5 inch, 3 Cone Drill 6.9 secs

All numbers were near the top at there positions.
