Earning VC versus Buying in NBA 2K
Posted on October 17, 2015 at 03:56 AM.
The race to a 99 rated my player begins every year right around the pre-order release date time for NBA 2K My Player fans. The fans with the most money to BLOW on imaginary avatars of them selves and virtual clothing gear/accessories, as if $60 isn't enough patronage, usually DESTROY all comers with lesser pockets so to speak. So really your My Player experience becomes a game of BIG BANK TAKE LIL BANK. Hey, mo' Power to the fans with bread to spare, and STOP the insanity for those that don't. I'm NOT a MyPlayer fan, nor do I pretend to be but I have a solution that CHEESERS will probably hate, but real sim players will thoroughly enjoy so read on.

All enhancements for My Player's should truly be earned thru practice and play EXCLUSIVELY. If fans don't want to wait to get better to get fly sneakers or dope gear, then fine let them splurge but when it comes to player upgrades NO dice. I will be writing a more detailed idea for a NEW MODE for 2K later but this is a short version. To distance themselves from the MONEY GRAB of 2K fans' pockets, 2K should really explore challenging the fans instead.

I will start with PARK PLAY. If fans want that Kyrie size up move, then they need to meet up with Kyrie at a local Cleveland playground or gym, and beat him in some form of 1 on 1 competition. You want Steph Curry's shooting rating, then out shoot him in H-O-R-S-E. You want LaVine type dunk capabilities, then compete for it instead of buying it. The Online parks should be filled with NBA players, Legends, and Fans to challenge in half court or full 1 on 1, doubles, 3 on 3, 4's, 5's, 21, knock-out, 3pt shooting, and/or H-O-R-S-E or what ever you call these type of games where you are from. Now that more focus is FINALLY on NBA 2K players actually playing like themselves (something that could have been done since 2K13, I have the proof) these challenges would be epic as My Players would have just as much to lose as they have to gain. When challenging anyone, wagers should involve VC, gear/accessories, abilities, ratings or all mentioned. Winners take all.

Now of course fans shouldn't be allowed to scan their face, get geared up and walk on any court and beat Steve Nash in H-O-R-S-E or 1 on 1 even if they try 50 times or make their My Player 7ft 300 pounds. Nash's shooting would be too great for beginners in a game of H-O-R-S-E. Nash's shooting, AI, and quickness would be too good for bigger players trying to post him, especially when the better player gets ball 1st every time. Only equal rated players would shoot for ball. Challenges like these are fun and competitive so fans would enjoy starting out against one another to earn early enhancements then on to NBA back-ups, starters, All Stars, & Super Stars for more dominant upgrades and badges.

Here is an example of a gauntlet tier challenge after a dope intro of 2K17 (and NOT the cheesy cartoon version we saw demonize Steph Curry as some cartoon boy fought his way thru Hell to fight a devil MJ):

1. MyPlayer vs (3 to 4 Joe Schmo's in a row) Joe Shmo - *Winner gets sneakers Schmo bought, 25 VC, and speed upgrade of whatever the differential was between them so 5 because MyPlayer was 72 and Schmo was 77.

2. MyPlayer vs Norman Powell (NBA Rookie 2nd rounder)

3. MyPlayer vs Sam Dekker (NBA Rookie 1st rounder)

4. MyPlayer vs 2 or 3 year vet like Bennett instead of Oladipo

5. MyPlayer vs 3 or 4 year vet like Jeremy Lamb instead of Oladipo

6. MyPlayer vs Andre Miller(MIN) - Don't allow this version of Dre Day to get you in the post because you won't stop him. (Hint: Other versions of Andre Miller would be better like CLE when he led league in assists. Foreshadowing of NEW MODE IDEA) *Winner gets inside scoring upgrade

7. MyPlayer vs Donald Sloan - Likes to drive then shoot but will shoot after check ball. *Winner gets strength upgrade, etc...

8. MyPlayer vs Darren Collison - Keep him honest on the pull up and don't give up too many drives for a win. *Winner gets quickness upgrade, etc...

9. So on and so forth until fans can build a formidable NBA player to COMPETE with NOT buy. Fans would need to choose there opponents wisely for wins at first like boxing (I know @nelsonblake2 would appreciate the boxing reference). For those that don't, end up getting their head burst over & over by good to great stars of the game.

This is an easy way to make MyPlayer about the game instead of money. Imagine getting to the park scene to go up against Dr. J in cut off jean shorts, a wife beater, with a pair of chucks on as his fro blows in the wind like LionO's hair-mane. If you win hey you could change your MyPlayer name to "Julius Chucks." Hell I would.

Be sure to comment and like this Blog if you think the 2K hamster wheel needs a makeover.

2K isn't delivering the VCs you purchase anyway ((http://www.operationsports.com/forum...orst-ever.html)

I do agree with your article! Shouldnt be able to upgrade player to MAX with VCs. At a maximum 78-80 with VCs would be OK and then upgrade based on some challenged, like u suggest

I agree with the system in general. NBA Live got this part right where you have to earn your rep and upgrades through playing not purchasing VC to make your player better. This year I pre-ordered The Jordan Edition (I own every 2K) and used that extra VC to come out a beast because I refuse to purchase more after spending $80 on the game. I also refuse to keep getting abused by players who have no skill or look for the first pay to cheese way to win a game. I want SP back so bad.
