NBA 2K LEGACY EDITION: Entry #4 Inside the game
Posted on April 14, 2015 at 02:11 AM.
In this section of my ultimate wish for the 2K franchise, I will attempt to paint a mental picture of some of the game set up for an NBA 2K LEGACY EDITION. I want to discuss the Team Select Screen, Player Lineup Screen, and Team Rosters/Player Ratings.

Team Select Screen
The Team Select Screen should be done exactly like Madden did a few years ago when they gave fans the option of choosing current teams as well as retro teams. Once teams are chosen, the options of uniforms and coaching styles/playbooks are next. The normal lower right and left triggers/buttons are used to select between the current default NBA rosters, East & West All Stars, Eruo rosters, current Gold Medal Olympic Team, and the unveiling of the WNBA East & West All Stars. If 2K is looking for more sales, why not use the WNBA to springboard the GROWTH of the female fan base?
The All Time roster options are made available after pressing Y/triangle on the controller. This automatically places all current NBA players NOT selected for an All Time team into the free agent pool for users that choose to create their own rosters. Fans can now choose from 31 NBA All Time teams(Sonics & Thunder on separate rosters) plus the Dream Team, ALL Olympic Gold Medal teams from 1996 up to the Redeem Team(including men's Euro teams), an All Time Euro team, an All Time East and West WNBA team, the US Women's Olympic Dream Team, and the Houston Comets 3-peat team. I can envision the numerous controllers destroyed by fans that find themselves losers to WNBA teams. Access to this type of Star Power is a 2K fans' dream. Ultimate supremacy is on the line in every match up.

The pop-up options for the All Time teams uniforms, coaching styles and playbooks are little different from the default current team rosters. All Time teams are set to retro style uni's with retro players in short shorts and current players with current length shorts, but users ultimately have the options of all uniforms and all current length or all retro as well.

In that same pop-up, fans get to choose between coaching styles and playbooks(which will be detailed during roster discussions). All teams will have specific era styles and coaches playbooks.
Examples:
Lakers = Bill Sharman's High Post Offense, Pat Riley's Showtime Offense, or Phil Jackson's Triangle.

Knicks = Red Holzman's Motion Offense or Pat Riley's NO layup Rule Defense and 1-4 Low Offense.

Player Lineup or Rotation Screen
Only two additions are needed for the rotation adjustments.
#1. Fans should have access to all 15 players on this screen in order to choose their 12 man rotation without having to save players to default rosters to have access. Most users view themselves as coaches anyway, so this option makes perfect sense. Of course the 3 players not selected for the 12 man rotation would not be available during gameplay.
#2. While up and down on the D-Pad selects the 12 man rotation, left and right will be used to manage a few unique All Time player options. When selecting the All Time Lakers, Sixers, Bulls, Spurs, Knicks, Pacers, Mavericks, or Jazz, fans can press L or R on the D-Pad to select between 2 specific versions of the following players:

() = represents overall player rating
Lakers - (100)Kareem w/afro & beard or (91)older & Bald
(92) #8 Kobe w/afro or (100) #24 older with fade
Sixers - (100)Dr. J w/huge afro or (92)older w/mini-afro
Bulls - (90)Younger M.J. or (100)bald M.J.
Spurs - (100)Younger power forward Duncan or (89)older center
Knicks - (94)Younger widows peak Ewing or (90)older w/box fade
Pacers - (88)Younger ramp fade Reggie or (90)older bald
Mavericks - (87)Younger Dirk or (93)older longer hair
(90)Younger #5 Kidd or (83) older #2
Jazz - (99)Younger Karl Malone w/hair or (95)older without
(89)Younger Stockton or (93)older

Rosters & Player Ratings
An NBA 2K LEGACY EDITION would effectively combine all eras of the 2K and NBA franchises. Again if fans are to forget the recent missteps from the 2K empire, 2K has to first get off of the hamster wheel. In this final "Inside the Game" entry, let's take a quick preview of what to expect from the team rosters and player ratings.

Current era rosters are pretty much the same with the exception of the ill advised body part injury attributes. Injury ratings, really?

All Time rosters would feature the 15 best players to ever play for each NBA franchise. Some players will appear on more than 1 or 2 teams. All player ratings will be based on their career average with each team. In fact only career averages will be made available in player profiles for All Time rosters. In some cases, players will share the same jersey number as a teammate such as the case with #1 Anfernee Hardaway and #1 Tracy McGrady with the Orlando Magic. In these cases where body types and skin color are similar, players will be made distinguishable by player gear. Hardaway with a forearm band and McGrady with a forearm band and a leg sleeve.
The Sonics and Thunder will remain separate mainly because the Sonics franchise is no longer recognized. Luckily the Sonics and Thunder both have benefited from Durant's game but Hall of Famers like Gary Payton, Dennis Johnson, and Lenny Wilkens never dawned Thunder uniforms, therefore will only be eligible for other teams that they played well for.
The NBA has had so many great players so all won't fit a 15 man roster, but because this is my idea for the fans, there should be an overflow of those type players in the free agent pool.

I hope this has been an interesting read for fans like me who need more from 2K.
