Custom Playbooks in Madden are a good sign for NCAAers

mmmmm... the yummy goodness of your own personalized offensive attack.

With Madden's announcement and the obvious inclusion of Custom Playbooks into the game, there is a lot to be discussed. About Madden? Maybe, but that game still lacks the fundemental gameplay that gives gamers the feel of a real game. It's an arcade game at best. We are talking about the riser of EA Sports, especially in a day and age of impending NFL doom, NCAA 12.

In the scheme diverse game of college football we see today, it's imperative that playbooks be customized/changable. Pulling bits and pieces from so many different offensive beliefs is how teams succeed and how legends are made. Though playbooks and philosophies change from year to year in pro football, it is even more evident in college, where your players are always comig and going. Offenses are constantly tweaked to fit players with unique skill sets. Look at Gary Pinkle at Missouri, he slowly implimented the spread as the team graduated Zach Abrom and Brad Smith in the early 2000s and welcomed in Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin to a full-on passing attack. It's just part of the sport.

Custom playbooks in NCAA would allow for this. I wouldn't expect the CPU to change up their schemes, but it adds so much for the user teams. I just imagine starting out with a lowely North Texas team who is built for the spread and start recruiting pro-style players. Year by year I'd tweak the playbook slowly away from spread formations/principles and introduce the I formation and more traditional plays. Years later after my style is implimented I might want to switch things up again after somehow landing the next Joshua Cribbs at quarterback... so I add a few option plays. Gosh, every time I imagine the possibilities I want to run over to wherever EA develops NCAA and go sneak a peak at the features.

With Madden getting it, I think there is a good chance that NCAA does as well. Last year NCAA proved they don't always have to get features a year late as they got locomotion the same year as Madden. Another thing to think about, is if NCAA gets it's coaching carousel feature, custom playbooks would compliment it perfectly.

The one thing I'm hung up on is if Custom Playbooks should be allowed in online ranked games. I don't play online much but I could see that turn into a cheese fest. Thought's people?

Two thumbs up!

I too am on the bandwagon for custom playbooks but the one issue that has always come up in the back of my mind is the online implementation. Yes, I'm sure many people would be just fine with the option to have custom playbooks usable online, but as we all know, there is that fine line of online gaming and a win at all costs measure -- which is why I personally choose an online dynasty with people I know.

Just as easily as I could see someone adding some pro-style principles to compliment their Troy Air Raid playbook, I could just as easily see someone hopping online with their custom playbook chocked full of 'money' plays and sharp cheddar tactics.

I personally don't know what gives. I don't know where you would draw the line or how to regulate the true customization of each individual player's preference.

I often ask if it can get any worse though, than it's current state. I rarely play games against people in ranked matches that I don't know because it is difficult to get a good match going. The best thing to do is play with fellow OSers or Tradition Football.

I think online dynasties definitely need the custom playbook feature, but lobby ranked matches are a bit more questionable. I'd still allow them, but that's just me.

Please, please, please do this EA!! You can go from zero to hero if this is done and clean the slate of past sins so much easier. While were at it add in game saves and this game would be **** without a doubt!!
