ACQB M10 Game Summary Week 7: Steelers (CreatineKasey) vs. Vikings (DJ)

The Tale of Two Games: Shootout in the 1st Half, Shutout in the 2nd Ends with Pittsburgh on Top

Final
MIN 17
PIT 21

A combined 38 points were scored in the first half, and a combined 0 in the second half. The first half saw two plays of over 75 yards and a couple of long, grinding mistake free drives. The second half was spotlighted by wonderful defensive efforts such as these:

Jared Allen forces a fumble inside his own red zone to prevent PIT from scoring.

James Harrison tackles Adrian Peterson on a 3rd and 3 for a 1 yard gain on a screen pass in the open field to end the drive.

The score is somewhat misleading as the Steelers more than doubled the total offensive output created by Minnesota 331 to 151. Percy Harvin returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a TD to put the Vikes up early. Pittsburgh also controlled time of possession 3:2 (21:32 to 14:28) thanks to 130 rushing yards, all credited to Willie Parker on 16 carries. Adrian Peterson was completely locked down, only mustering 25 yards on 13 carries against one of the league's top run defenses.

This was a well played football game. There were no interceptions and no real broken plays by either party. The only turnover came on the exceptional play by Allen to force a fumble and for Leber to recover it.

Roethlisberger played exceptional, throwing 2 TD's and 217 yards going 16 for 21. His favorite target was Santonio Holmes who pulled down 7 balls for 115 yards. Late in the game Limas Sweed came in and pulled down 2 3rd down coverting catches to end the game. This was important since Hines Ward was injured and Sweed needed to step up (MIN was doubling Holmes) and he sure did!

Pittsburgh rises to 6-1 and Minnesota falls to 5-2.

GG DJ! I knew it was going to be within a score.

Man, that was a crazy game. I thought we were headed for a 40-38 type of game. Your D totally shut down my running game; I couldn't get any blocking up front and AP had no chance as he was met in the backfield on nearly every carry.

I think Jackson's going to be my QB, though. For some reason, I seem to play my best with him behind center. Harvin's kickoff return and Allen's sack/fumble were sweet plays by me. Your run with Parker was awesome (broke 3 tackles) and you have great timing with Santonio and Big Ben.

Good luck the rest of the way.
