ACQB M10 Game Summary: Steelers (CreatineKasey) vs. Lions (CPU)
Posted on August 29, 2009 at 12:50 PM.
Lions Continue Losing Streak Against Defending Champs, Fall to 0-5

Pittsburgh completely bullied the inept Lions for the entire game. Stafford's first pass was an INT to Ike Taylor, a kind of "welcome to the NFL". He was trying to force the ball to his all-world WR Calvin Johnson who was regularly doubled on the day. The very next play Pittsburgh threw a playaction bomb for 30+ yards to Santonio Holmes setting up their first TD.

Beyond that point Pittsburgh sat in conservative cruise control, limiting Big Ben's pass attempts to 16 and running the ball 24 times (for 154 yards). Lawrence Timmons, the Snickers player of the game, put the game out of reach at 21-0 in the 2nd quarter with a strip, scoop, score TD on the kickoff. He leads the team in tackles because of his noticeable success on special teams.

Stafford's frustration was clear in the second half. He finally got some rhythm going in the 3rd quarter capping off an impressive drive by throwing a strike to Calvin Johnson, who could barely be kept contained. He was the team's leading rusher, showing how strong that Pitt run D still is. On one impressive scramble, Stafford stiff armed last year's defensive MVP on his way to an 11 yard run.

Key Stats:

Ben Roethlisberger: 12/16 176 Yards 2 TD 0 INT

Willie Parker: 15 att. 64 yards 0 TD 1 Fum
Rashard Mendenhall: 7 att. 85 yards 1 TD
Carey Davis: 1 att. 9 yards, 1 rec. 47 yards

Santonio Holmes: 7 rec. 101 yards 2 TD

Lawrence Timmons: 3 Solo Tak, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 TD
Lamarr Woodley: 2 Tak, 1 Sack
Ike Taylor: 1 Tak, 1 INT

Matthew Stafford: 11/22 106 yds 1 TD 1 INT, 2 rush 28 yds

Kevin Smith: 10 rush 22 yds

Calvin Johnson 3 rec. 20 yds 1 TD

Ernie Sims 5 Tak, 1 FF

Next week the Steelers have the Browns coming into Pittsburgh for an old-time rivalry match. Detroit travels to Green Bay, where they may sneak a W... it all depends on the shaky coaching situation over there.

Man, I am NOT looking forward to facing you in a couple of weeks, Kasey. You've got the Steelers primed for a repeat.

Sweet play by Timmons! Starters on special teams are a must! Mendenhall had a nice day as a change of pace back as well. Looks like you've got 'em going strong.
