Bulls survive Legends

Final Score: 35-31 Creatine

This game had everything, besides defense. It was your typical shootout. Our legendary runningbacks (Emmitt Smith and Marcus Allen) combined for 7 touchdowns in this game. It came down to the wire. With less than a minute left AmericasTeam regained the lead scoring on a 4 yard counter play. To get there he converted a clutch 3rd and 2 throwing to the flats to Smith who rumbled for 20.

Soon after the Bulls started off shaky. Jackie Smith drops a seam route, then on the next play holding is called making it 2nd and 20 with 35 seconds left in the game at our own 15 yard line. Hebert then hits a 30 yard seam pass to Jackie Smith. Two Plays later Marcus Allen is hit on a seam route on the other side of the field and finishes it off with a touchdown to take the lead with 20 seconds left. It was a clutch play by Mr. Clutch.

On the offensive side of the ball for the Legends, Troy Aikman struggled, going only 7 for 18 for 100 yards 1 TD and 2 INT's. He just couldn't make any big plays. He really didn't need to, though with Emmitt taking the load of touches. He had 29 rushes for 196 yards and 3 TD's. He also had 2 catches for 32 yards and a TD totaling 4. Willie Gault had 2 costly drops. Smith was very difficult to stop. He broke 9 tackles and was just tough overall.

For the Bulls the Ragin Cajun Bobby Hebert had his 2nd straight stellar performance going 12 for 19 for 268 yards 3 TD's and 1 INT. Marcus Allen had 124 yards on 13 carries and 2 TD's on the ground. Allen also led the team in recieving snagging 5 balls for 94 yards and the game winning TD. He had 3 total TD's and 220 total yards of offense! Allen was an unstoppable force the whole game. Cliff Branch and Dwight Clark both caught their 2nd TD's of the season also and contributed when needed.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Legends Leroy Butler led the team with 5 tackles and 1 interception which was a wonderful play where Hebert was hit while he threw the football and Butler made the most of the lame duck. The Legends defense struggled overall and that is proof with only 1 tackle for loss recorded, 0 sacks, and 1 INT. That's a very low amount of impact plays.

For the Bulls Mel Renfro led the team with 6 solo tackles, 1 pass defended and an INT. Reggie Matthews grabbed the most important INT to end the game. Leon Lett had 3 tackles and a sack. Greg Lloyd also had 6 tackles including 1 for a loss. Otis Wilson had 3 tackles for a loss. The Bulls had 8 tackles for a loss as a team which was important.

The Legends won the time of possessiion 14:56 to 8:52. The Bulls won total yardage 391 to 296. The Bulls won the turnover ratio 2 to 1.

The difference in the game in my eyes was the amount of impact plays made on defense. I just made a few more impact plays which ended up sneaking the win in for me overall. Another factor was just flat-out who scored last. We couldn't stop eachother very well. As the game wore on I made a few better playcalls to stop Smith enough to give me a chance to win. At one point I was down by 3, just missed a field goal and instead of giving up a score to go down 10, I force a 3 and out and regain the lead which was very important.

GG AmerciasTeam1!
