Iron Inch out Win against Rival Storm in Pittsburgh

This game had a similar ending by the numbers, but played completely differently the whole way through. In the first game the Iron got ahead early and rode their momentum to barely hang on to win. In this game the Storm matched every Iron play blow for blow. It was another very tightly played game. Mistakes were rare, and ones that happened were punished harshly.

The Iron held the lead midway through the 4th quarter and were converting 3rd and shorts fairly well to try to grind out the rest of the game. At this point Jim Hart hadn't thrown an incompletion. Suddenly, the Storm show a look unseen all game and send in a specific blitz. Hart panics and throws the ball up. Joey Browner of the Storm comes down with it and returns it 61 yards to tie the game at 24 to 24.

The Iron then retaliate quickly, throwing a playaction bomb to Dwight Clark for a 40+ yard gain to put the Iron if FG position immediately. They attacked Browner right after he punished them. The Iron then proceeded to milk the clock until 3 ticks were left and Al Del Greco did what he was hired for, win games with FG's.

There was only 1 punt all game and it came in the 4th quarter. Both teams were on their A game. Randall Cunningham went 16 for 22 for 208 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT's, and 1 sack. He was a machine and think he will capture the league MVP. Jim Hart went 13 for 14 for 206 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and no sacks. This was the second game in a row Hart wasn't sacked.

A big variance was ball control, where the Iron held the ball for over 15 minutes and that was because of the run game. The Storm's Ricky Watters was held to 11 yards on 4 carries whereas the Iron's Chris Warren ran for 130 yards on 20 carries and 2 TD's.
Metzlaars had his best game of the season, pulling in 6 catches for 77 yards. Clark had 2 for 81 and a big TD pulling in a lob over Lott's head. Cunningham spread the ball around very evenly and no standouts were presend. Gault had 5 catches and his 6th TD of the season. Sharpe also heavily contributed with 4 catches for 61 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Storm, Robert Brazile had his hands full tracking Warren all day, pulling in 9 solo tackles. Joey Browner made the lone impact play with the INT-TD and also contributed with 6 tackles. For the Iron Lambert tied the team lead with 2 others picking up 4 tackles and a pass defensed. Randy White got the lone sack in the game. He has 2 sacks in 2 games against the Storm, and zero against everyone else!

GG Jackal! I think my days are numbered against you. Your adjustments were very good and I could tell you built off our last engagement. I barely snuck by with some big passes.

You and Jackal always have epic battles, man. Sounds like this was another good one. I need to play a game against you some time so I can learn a little more about how to play good defense.
