Iron Stay Hot in Win Over Renegades

The Pittsburgh Iron came flying out of the gates racking up 21 points in the first quarter. Big plays just seemed to break open one after another. Soon after the Renegades caught their breath, made some plays of their own, and put this thing within 1 score for the majority of it. Pittsburgh jumping ahead really put the pace in their hands and let them avoid mistakes on offense especially in the second half, just choosing not to take risks.

On the offensive side of the ball Johnny Unitas for the Renegades had a career game going 23 for 35 for 349 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT, and sacked 3 times. He gave the Iron all they could handle. Not finishing drives is what ended up stalling the comeback. Ricky Sanders caught 5 of those balls for 109 yards and a TD as the leading reciever.

For the Iron Chris Warren was again the man of the hour scoring two breakaway touchdowns in the first quarter and continuing to pound the rest of the game. He finished with 150 yards on 13 carries including 2 TD's and 6 broken tackles. Dwight Clark caught a 70 yard TD for his only reception. Jim Hart did what was asked of him (being efficient) going 6 for 9 for 179 yards and a TD. This was a 19.9 yards per attempt!

On the defensive side of things the Iron knew the Renegades were outmatched in the ground game and really tightened up in the red zone like they needed to do. Torrin Curry led the Iron again with 7 solo tackles. Chad Russell intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD in the 4th quarter sealing the game. For the Renegades Blake Brooking led the team with 5 tackles and Reggie White recorded 1.5 sacks, all of which occurred on 3rd down.

The Renegades had no problem moving the ball between the 20's, but just couldnt thread the needle in the red zone. The Iron got to play their brand of football by scoring quickly and that ended up being the difference in this one. The Iron improve to 5-0 on the season and the Renegades fall to 2-2.

GG Coach Tombsong! It is always fun playing you.

Man, Chris Warren is just killing people out there. It sounds like he's running right through guys and then away from the rest. He's a very complete player, and it looks like you've got him rumbling. Nice work!
