Armchair QB's Season 1 Playoffs Round 1 Summary - C-Bus VS. CreatineKasey

Goats Defense Belittles Mighty Stallions
In the Stallions opening drive, the Goats were audibling out of a defense which left the whole defense in disarray. The Stallions recognized this and quickly snapped the ball with intentions of attacking the mismatch. Instead, Derrick Thomas FLIES through the A gap, forces a fumble on Len Dawson! Chuck Bednarik (loose ball magnet) FLIES into the screen, scoops up the ball, and takes the ball 40 yards for the opening TD! Aside from the circumstances, that was one of the coolest plays I've ever seen in All Pro Football.

The Goats never scored an offensive touchdown. Their other touchdown was an interception returned for a score on a 4th and 4 where the Stallions found themselves in the gray area of the field. In total, the Goats defense recorded 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble returned for a TD, and 6 sacks. Once San Diego got down by 2 scores, the were forced to abandon their vaunted run game and play to a strength of the Goats, the pass rush. Derrick Thomas and the linebacking crew pinned their ears back the remainder of the game and played in the backfield (11 tackles for a loss).

On the offensive side of the ball, San Diego's offense was held in check handedly. Bo Jackson was held to a mortal 62 yards rushing, and Dawson recorded 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. San Diego's defense played good enough to win under most conditions, but the Stallion's offense really failed them.

Dan Marino simply managed the game and refused to give the ball to the hungry Stallion defense after throwing a hitch route on their opening drive and Rod Woodson reminded him why he's the most explosive DB in the game with a terrifying interception.

Bednarik recorded an unusual 5 tackles, 3 for a loss. Maybe more important than his tackles was the fumble recovery for a TD he had. Scott Studwell had his best game of the season at a great time. he had 9 tackles and a sack. Derrick Thomas finished with 2.5 sacks and a giant forced fumble. He constantly pressured the QB and never allowed Dawson to feel comfortable. All 3 linebackers played unusually well this game. This was the first game they really gelled and played mistake free for 4 quarters and showed what they were capable of doing.

GG Cbus I'll be seeing you real soon in season 2! I'm going to miss using Thomas and this 3-4 defense.
