Iron Hang on to Win with Last Second Field Goal Against the Great Whites

The game was relatively tame up until the fourth quarter, then all hell broke loose. It was 10-10 going into the fourth. 20 combined points were scored in 3 quarters and 31 combined points were scored in the fourth quarter alone. This game turned into a shootout late. Back and forth we went.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter Chris Warren capped off a drive with a 3 yard TD, his first of the day. The wind was immediately knocked out of the Iron as Rocket Ismail of the Great Whites returns a kickoff 101 yards for a big game tying TD. Chris Warren's workhorse ability then kicks in as he breaks a massive 69 yard TD 3 plays later. Steve Young then rallies the troops over a 9 play drive to tie the game up. Finally the Iron's Jim Hart and Chris Warren do what they do best: win in the 4th quarter. They drove the field with relative ease and Warren fell down in the Red Zone to give Al Del Greco a chip shot game winning field goal.

A 52 yard field goal against the wind at the end of the first half ended up being the difference in the game. It was shocking because of a blind neutral zone infraction call made by the refs put the Iron into position for that kick, which is just heartbreaking for the Great Whites. The Great Whites missed a potential tying field goal after a clutch Red Zone sack by the Iron which proved very important.

On the offensive side of the ball Steve Young was an efficient 16 for 21 for 228 yards, 1 TD and 0 INT's. Meggett was held for 21 yards rushing, but chewed up 79 yards receiving on 7 catches giving him 100 all purpose yards. Ben Coates caught an extremely clutch TD in the first half on a 3rd and long in between quadruple coverage over the middle to tie the game 10-10. Chris Warren for the Iron really shined late in the game and produced when it was the most important. He finished with 179 yards on 16 carries including 2 TD's and a long 69 yard dash in the 4th quarter. Dwight Clark had a 2nd game in a row with a TD racking up 85 yards on 2 big catches. Jim Hart was a mediocre 6 for 14 for 126 yards , 1 TD and 2 INT's which could have been even more.

The Iron have 4 turnovers in 2 games and have forced 0 turnovers. This is a -4 turnover ratio, yet they have found a way to win. If they want to keep winning, this will need to change as turnovers WILL catch up to them.

What the Iron have done, though, is get sacks. After an 8 sack performance week 1, the Iron come back and rattle off another 6 sacks, all coming in the first half. Elvin Bethea had another 3 himself, giving him 6 in two games. OLB of the Iron Torrun Curry led with 9 tackles, a half a sack including 3 tackles for a loss. Nolan Cromwell of the Great Whites led with 4 tackles. Both Hakim and Green had INT's.

GG Coach CBUS that was a wild game. See you again soon!
