By all indications it appears that the New England Patriots and wide receiver Wes Welker, playing under the franchise tag for 2012, won't come to agreement on a contract extension between now and tomorrow's 4:00 PM deadline for franchise players.
A source close to Welker said that as of Saturday dialogue between the sides wasn't overly active. The source said that at this point, it would be a surprise if an extension was reached, but cautioned that things always could shift as the deadline approaches.... Read More

We’re talked a lot about needs for the Colts, beyond quarterback which will be addressed when they draft Andrew Luck first overall: cornerback, safety, nose tackle, tight end, receiver and perhaps an offensive lineman.
We’re expecting Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney to spend most of their time at outside linebacker in a new 3-4 the Colts will be in as often as possible. If so, then some guys who were tackles in the old 4-3 will shift to end in that front. Fili Moala and Drake Nevis ... Read More

As other Buckeye athletes retweet every at tweet telling them someone's playing EA Sports' NCAA Football '13 and using them, it's always sort of novel to see the incoming freshmen get the first non-weight-room-ownage or academic rude awakening experience of being a college athlete. For the rest of us, well, we'll just play the game and keep yelling obscenities as we throw another pick 6. On that note...Taylor Martinez has 'progressively got worse' as a passer. Can he still turn the corner? ... Read More

The St. Louis Rams went the first-time-head-coach route when they hired Scott Linehan in 2005. An 8-8 season and one of the worst three-year stretches in NFL history followed.
Then they did it again when they hired Steve Spagnuolo. He went 1-15, 7-9 and then 2-14. The Rams had a lot of problems that had nothing to do with the coach -- especially how the roster was constructed -- but franchise pillar Steven Jackson sounds happy another first-time head coach hasn't entered the picture. Instead, ... Read More

We haven't seen Peyton Manning throw a touchdown pass since January 8, 2011. That's when the New York Jets beat the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC wild-card playoff game, long before a string of neck surgeries led to Manning's year-long hiatus and a major career shift.
The big question for the Denver Broncos is whether they have a fully healthy Peyton Manning or a shadow of the five-time All-Pro.
Mike Klis of The Denver Post watched Manning through four weeks of offseason activities and ... Read More

Franchise-tagged kicker Matt Prater signed a four-year contract with the Denver Broncos, the team announced Monday."I'm really excited just to see the offense, what they're going to be doing, because the offense can also make my job easier, too," Prater said during a conference call, referencing the Broncos' offseason signing of quarterback Peyton Manning. "You always have to make some hard decisions," New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese told the New York Daily Newsat the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
