What are the best philosophies for a successful offense in the NFL?
Posted on October 16, 2010 at 02:01 PM.
We all know that there are many different positions in the NFL. There's quarterback, running back, offensive tackle...But there are different kinds of these positions too. Now I'm going to give my opinion on which type of each position is best using a mutliple-choice type of format If you agree, that's awesome and I'd love to know that you think the same way. If you disagree, GTFO!

Nah just kidding...don't shy away from telling me what you think! Because of the multiple choice format of this blog entry, please just choose from the choices given. I know a lot of the times the elite players at a position are hard to place into just a single type of player but that's kind of the point...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
QB
A) Gunslinger- QB with a lot of throw power but may be lacking in other areas of the game Example: JaMarcus Russell, Joe Flacco
B) Pinpoint Accuracy- QB with a lot of accuracy even if he doesn't have a lot of velocity on his throws or accuracy. Example: Chad Pennington, Drew Brees
C) Scrambler- QB who looks to scramble first and excels at escaping pressure. Example: Michael Vick, Vince Young

HB
A) Elusiveness- Halfback who relies on jukes, spins, cut moves, and fakes to get into the second level of the defense. Example: Steve Slaton, DeAngelo Williams
B) Bruiser- Halfback who throws his body out there to break free from defenders; tends to look for contact in the pile. Example: Brandon Jacobs, Steven Jackson
C) All-Purpose Back/3rd Down Back- Halfbacks who aren't the best at rushing the ball but can provide solid blocking, receiving; very effective at 3rd down plays. Example: Joseph Addai, Matt Forte

FB
A) Bruiser- Power, power, power. No need for blocking, no need for catching. Give it to him for those tough goal line situations. Example: Greg Jones
B) Receiving FB- Good at running routes and exceptional hands and athleticism...you know...for a fullback. Example: Leonard Weaver, Mike Tolbert
C) Lead Blocker- More of an old school-type blocker. Likes to block for his halfback and doesn't mind doing the dirty work. Example: Lousaka Polite, Ahmard Hall

WR
A) Downfield Threat- Excepitonal speed and great ability to adjust to the ball. Meant to be running streaks and excels at coming up with the ball in one-on-one situations. Example: Randy Moss, Devin Hester
B) Possession Receiver- Best at catching passes in the middle of traffic and can come up with the ball despite being hit. May not be the most athletic but usually have very reliable hands. Example: Hines Ward, Anquan Boldin
C) YAC Specialist- Once they catch the ball, they are hard to take down. Normally very agile and possess halfback-like moves (jukes, spins, cuts, etc). Example: Steve Smith (CAR), Wes Welker

TE
A) Receiving Threat- Playmakers down the field. Basically bigger versions of receivers. Example: Antonio Gates, Jermichael Finley
B) Blocking Threat- Prefers to do the dirty work than go out and make those big catches. Fullbacks in despise. Example: Jim Kleinsasser, Brandon Manumaleuna

LT
A) Run Blocking Specialist- Specializes at making big blocks to open up holes for their halfback. Example: Flozell Adams, Bryant McKinnie
B) Pass Blocking Specialist- Best at protecting their QB from pass rushers. Example: Joe Thomas, Orlando Pace

LG
A) Run Blocking Specialist- Specializes at making big blocks to open up holes for their halfback Example: Steve Hutchinson, Alan Faneca

B) Pass Blocking Specialist- Best at protecting their QB from pass rushers. Example: Eric Steinbach

C
A) Run Blocking Specialist- Specializes at making big blocks to open up holes for their halfback. Example: Andre Gurode

B) Pass Blocking Specialist- Best at protecting their QB from pass rushers. Example: Jeff Saturday

RG
A) Run Blocking Specialist- Specializes at making big blocks to open up holes for their halfback Example: Chris Snee
B) Pass Blocking Specialist- Best at protecting their QB from pass rushers. Example: Jahri Evans

RT
A) Run Blocking Specialist- Specializes at making big blocks to open up holes for their halfback Example: Damien Woody

B) Pass Blocking Specialist- Best at protecting their QB from pass rushers. Example: Jamaal Brown, Ryan Diem
