The 0-1 Sacred Heart Pioneers travel to the 0-0 Yale Bulldogs. The Pioneers are looking to rebound from their crushing defat at UCLA.
Sacred Heart gets off to a quick start leaping to an 8-2 lead at the 11:33 mark. The Pioneers have been able to get to the rim for some easy buckets and already have 3 offensive rebounds. After a foul on Kelley, Yale's Dallier makes both free throws to make it 14-8. At the end of the half the score is Sacred Hart 37, Yale 32.
We talked to coach Kutzke at the half and he said, "I love what I saw this half. We need to continue to apply pressure on the defense end and keep knocking down our open jumpers. If we can do that and rebound successfully we will be able to come out of here with a great win."
After a Yale timeout with 11:51 remaining in the second half, Sacred Heart leads 50-39. The Pioneers call a timeout with 8:00 left as Barnett's 28 points has pushed them to a 58-50 lead. With 3 minutes left the Pioneers lead 66-60. Yale calls a timeout with 1:48 remaining as they trail by 5. Yale scores coming out of the timeout and now the Pioneers lead by only 3 with 1:30 left. Kelley hits a huge 3 with 1:15 remaining and Sacred Heart takes a 6 point lead! The buzzer sounds and Sacred Heart wins by a score of 74-69!
Kutzke, "I love the way we took control of the ball and controlled the tempo when we had a lead late. That's a quality necessary for us to be a successful team. If Barnett plays like he did tonight we will be extremely difficult to beat".
