Following a great start to the season, The 76ers traveled to New York to take on the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. The Sixers led the entire game until 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, when, do to fatigue, all starters were sat in a risky move by Coach Doug Collins.
"I could see the guys were tired." states Collins. "I figured I could sit 'em and bring everyone back in for the last 2 minutes or so"
This proved to be a horrible mistake, as the Knicks went on a run and won the game by a final score of 144-141. Carmelo Anthony was named Player of the Game after putting up an unbelievable 46 points and 10 rebounds. JR Smith also posted 30 point for the Knicks.
It was all bad for the Sixers. Point Guard Jrue Holiday finished with 40 points, 14 assists, and 8 rebounds. Nick Young and Evan Turner also posted double doubles, with Young scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Turner finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while also dishing out 6 assists.
Shortly after the game, veteran bench players Jason Richardson and Dorell Wright were sent to the Boston Celtics in exchange for SG Courtney Lee and PF Brandon Bass.
"I felt bad for Richardson and Wright. They both deserved more playing time then they were getting with us." notes First Year General Manager Cam Hartman. "I figured I would ship them off to a program where they can showcase their abilities."
Bass will be taking over Sixth Man duties, while Courtney Lee will be backing up Nick Young at the Shooting Guard Position.
