The Cardinals
Posted on October 25, 2012 at 02:12 AM.
It took me a few days to get over the Cardinals series lost. I guess I should be grateful they got to this position in the first place considering what they had to go through. They lost Pujols first of all, one of the best players in the game. Berkman was out for basically the whole year. Furcal was injured near the end. Carpenter missed everything but the very end and the playoffs. Edit: I kind of missed the while coaching part too. Lost Larussa, and lost Duncan. Two great coaches that can't be replaced.

For a team to overcome that many obstacles it's amazing to see how far they came, but rather than being happy, I feel sad and agitated. How can a team lose 3 games in a row like that? 19/100, 1 run, allowed 20-25 runs. I expected it from Lynn, young pitcher. Lohse had to have a bad game at some point. Carpenter though, Game 6 was the game we had the best chance to win. Volgelsong just went beast mode and Carpenter dumped.

More in-depth on Game 7. We had Cain on the edge. 40ish pitches through 2 innings. If that Lohse line drive makes it past Crawford, 2 runs score, completely different ball game. Giants score right after that play and give Cain the confidence he needed. If that ball goes through perhaps Lohse gets a confidence boost and then pitches lights out the rest of the game. Rather than the Pence miracle hit or any other play in the 3rd, I believe that defensive play by Crawford was a game changer, a series changer, a season changer.

I am just shocked at how one of the best hitting teams in the league is held to 1 run in 3 deciding games. Their pitchers hit better than our team. How do you let that happen?

Oh well, congrats to the Giants though. To be able to win 3 games in a row, they deserve it. Perhaps if I had a football team that had a chance at the playoffs. Oh wait the Rams are 3-4. never mind.

This off-season though. Lynn, Kelly and Miller have to progress a lot in order for another serious play-off run. Wainwright isn't him same self, Carpenter is old, who knows if Lohse will be able to keep it up. The clock is ticking for the Cardinals. Everyone is a year older, how will they be able to compete with the Nationals when they barely beat them without Strasburg? It's going to be a rough road, one I don't think will end in glory.
