PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Coyotes took a 3-2 lead with just minutes left in the third period to salvage a split in a home and home series with the Boston Bruins. Captain Shane Doan netted two goals, one shorthanded and one on the powerplay. Forward Petr Prucha scored his third in the opening two games in between Doan's goals, showcasing a potentially dangerous first line for the Coyotes.

Doan broke free across the blue line in the first and seemed destined for a one on one with Bruins keeper Tim Thomas before being tripped by defenseman Zdeno Chara. The referee called a two-minute minor instead of a penalty shot, spurring a game of unprecedented physicality between the clubs. Each time suffered upwards of 22 penalty minutes.
