Bruins please capacity crowd in home opener.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Boston Bruins come into their 2011 NHL campaign with high expectations, and if the home opener is any indication of what's to come, those expectations might just be realized.

Marc Savard, Shawn Thornton, Marco Sturm and David Krejci all tallied goals in the first game of the year at the TD Garden, and goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 24 of 26 shots against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The game featured an intensity which was admittedly odd for the first game of season between two teams who have been, historically, indifferent towards each other. There were three fights over the course of the three periods.

Phoenix forward Petr Prucha kept his team afloat by scoring a beautifully placed wrist shot at the beginning of the second frame and redirecting a powerful slapper from the point past a clueless Tim Thomas.
