My Farewell to Operation Sports Stuck
Posted on September 3, 2011 at 10:40 AM.

A little over three years ago, at the urging of my wife, I took a chance and submitted my resume and writing samples for an open position here at Operation Sports. My passions in life have always been writing and sports gaming, so the opportunity was a dream come true. Upon leaving college to join corporate America, I was sure I would never again have the opportunity to explore my creative side. I will forever remember the day that I was notified by Executive Editor Chris Sanner that I received the job, I was like a kid on Christmas morning.

Never in a million years could I have imaged just how much my life would change after that fateful day. In my time at OS, I've been able to cover an NFL Draft, interview professional athletes, be interviewed on sports talk radio shows across the country, work with developers to provide input on games, work with Chris Sanner to make the OS Radio Show a force to be reckoned with on Blog Talk Radio, and I was even able to live my childhood dream by attending and covering E3. Being a part of the staff here at OS has afforded me some of my fondest memories and experiences I would have never been able to have otherwise.

In case you haven't already figured it out based on my sappy tone above, this will be my final "article" here at OS as my work here has lead to another amazing opportunity. Starting in October I will be joining the team at EA Tiburon as a designer for the NCAA Football series. That's right, the McLeods are leaving Michigan and headed to Florida! Leaving our families, lives, and home with a 10 week old baby to start fresh in an unfamiliar place will no doubt be a difficult and nerve racking task, but we are so excited to see what the future holds (and I'm even more excited I no longer have to shovel snow in the Winter). While I can't tell you right now the exact area of the game I will be working on, I can give you all a hint--you will be very, very, excited about it.

This was the toughest decision our family has ever made, opportunities like this only come along once in a lifetime.

I wanted to thank everyone here at OS for the opportunity, specifically Steve, Matt, Chris, and Chase. Our entire staff is top notch, and I will be eternally grateful for everything they have done for me over the years. I only wish everyone in our community knew how hard each of our guys works, and how passionate they all are about our site. I have been unbelievably blessed to be surrounded by such good people.

I also want to personally thank each and every member of our community. Without you OS could never be what it is today, and your passion (even when it frustrated me ), inspired my passion to write for you on a daily basis. You guys are the best sports gaming community around, and I will miss the opportunity to write for you.

So it is with a heavy heart, that I say goodbye to Operation Sports. I promise to drop in as much as possible in the future, and I can't wait to be able to share some really cool news about NCAA 13 and beyond when the time comes.

With Warmest Regards,

Christian

All the best. It seems like every even year NCAA Football is disappointing to me. Hopefully NCAA 13 is really good and provided a lot of options to customize the game.

Really? So nobody's going to ask?? Ok I guess I have to. Seems like the guy is a writer by profession so how does that allow him to work as a designer?

Now maybe he has education or work experience in game design and simply didn't mention it here or its widely known to the OS community, and if so then my fault, but what skills does he have at game design?

Maybe game designer is a loose term and he might be an idea guy who suggests things like practice squads and such.

If that's the case then his time at OS will help as he had past interaction with those of us who have been asking for that stuff. If he's going to be writing code or working on AI etc I don't see how a professional writer/journalist fits into that job.

There is a big difference between game development and game design.
