Rogers and the Gators come off of their back to back bye weeks healthy and ready for the stretch run. Their first game back is against a bitter rival and undefeated team, the Bulldogs from Georgia. Rogers enters the game still leading the nation in passing and on top of the Heisman watch list. The Gators have the top rank in the BCS standings and the Bulldogs are #2. The media polls actually have Georgia ranked #1 and the Gators #2. Rogers stated, "This game will put the winner in control of the SEC East and could be a step to the BCS Championship game".
Game - #2 Florida (7-0) vs. #1 Georgia (8-0)
The fans packed into EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. Both teams came out fast, but the Gators would strike first early in the 2nd quarter when they were able to connect on a field goal to take the 3-0 lead. Georgia's offense was on the move and looked poised to get some points but the Gators defense would create a turnover when they intercepted an errant pass. Rogers made the Bulldogs pay on the next play when he hit his favorite receiver, D. Maynard, for a 73 yard TD pass.
The Bulldogs would respond with a field goal of their own. Rogers looked to complete another successful two-minute drill but was thwarted when a deep pass attempt was intercepted. The score at halftime would be Georgia - 3, Florida - 10.
Georgia would come out of the locker room and move the down the field. They would tie the game at 10 midway through the 3rd quarter. Rogers caught the Bulldogs in a blitz and connected with Jackson for his second TD pass of the game on the Gators first drive of the second half.
The Bulldogs would not go away though, once again tying the game up on their next drive. The Gators looked to move down the field and chew up some clock using several running plays mixed with a few passing plays on their next drive. Rogers would put the finishing touch on the drive with his 3rd TD pass of the game, giving the Gators a 24-17 lead with :56 seconds left int he game. The Gators defense would finish the game with consecutive sacks.
WR M. Jackson was named player of the game. Jackson was the recipient of the final two TDs from Rogers and totaled 70 yards receiving on 4 catches (with 2 TDs). Rogers finished the game 18/34 for 322 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT.
The Gators travel to Nashville, TN to play Vanderbilt in Week 11.
