Sophomore Year - Week 5
Posted on October 16, 2011 at 11:53 PM.
Buck Rogers success last week against the Tennessee Volunteers has him at the top of a very short list for potential Heisman Trophy winners. Many pundits have stated that if the season were to end today, he would be their pick. This national recognition has not gone unnoticed around Gainesville either, as many fans are now anointing Rogers as the next Legendary Gator QB. Rogers performed much better on the practice field this week than he did last week and looks to defend home field against the Wildcats.

Game - Kentucky (3-1) vs. #5 Florida (4-0)
With his new found trust, Rogers now has more control in the offense. His decisions can be good, but also can lose the trust of his coaches and the fans if they are bad. The Wildcats took the opening kickoff down the field and scored a TD to go up 7-0. Using a series of deep passes to his favorite targets, #81 WR Maynard and #11 TE Wilson, Rogers would get the Gators into position for the tying score. Rogers would run it in himself from 2 yards out on an option play.

Rogers would run in his second rushing TD of the game on the Gators' next drive to give the Gators their first lead of the game at 14-7. After getting the ball back from a turnover, Rogers would call the number of his favorite receiver for a 48 yard TD strike. Maynard got behind the safety and was wide open on the play. The Wildcats would strike back with just under a minute left in the first half. Rogers forced a deep ball and made his first mistake of the game, throwing an interception. The Wildcats would be content down by 7 at the half, with the score 21-14.

There were technical difficulties in the stadium in the fourth quarter, but we can say that Rogers added another TD pass and the Gators were able to win the game 35-17.

Rogers was named player of the game for the 5th time this season and was named SEC Player of the Week for the 3rd time. Rogers finished 17/22 for 322 yards with 3 passing TDs and 1 INT. Rogers also added 20 yards rushing and 2 rushing TDs.

The Gators look to extend their winning streak, which now stands at 13 going back to last season, when they travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss.
