Sophomore Year - Week 4
Posted on October 15, 2011 at 11:14 PM.
Buck Rogers has dominated the tune-up games that were scheduled to begin this season and has gained national recognition along the way. Rogers has already been named NCAA and SEC Player of the Week twice this season in the first three weeks and has accounted for 17 total TDs (16 passing and 1 rushing). His success has moved him onto the radar of many Heisman Trophy voters, but many wonder if can he continue to play at a high level as the Gators enter into their SEC Conference schedule. Rogers struggled in practice this week as the coaching staff had a focus on screens and play action passes.
Game - #5 Florida (3-0) vs. Tennessee (2-0)
Rogers and the Gators came out on their first drive trying to establish a running game, beginning with 5 straight running plays. On his first pass attempt of the game, Rogers connected with his favorite new target, D. Maynard, for a 28 yard TD pass. After the Gators' defense got the ball back, Rogers and the offense looked to be rolling until TE Wilson fumbled the ball on a controversial ruling. Upon review it appeared that his knee was down but it did not matter because the Gators' defense once again came up huge, allowing no points to the Vols.

Rogers scrambled and attempted to gain a first down on the next drive but was stripped and the Vols recovered. Rogers made up for the mistake on his next possession as he connected on consecutive deep passes that moved the ball to inside the 5 yard line. Rogers would connect on a slant route to make the score 14-0 in favor of the Gators. Rogers would connect to TE Wilson for a 51 yard gain as the clock expired so the halftime score remained 14-0.

The 3rd quarter began with the Gators moving the ball down the field with relative ease and would tack on another TD when Rogers connected on a 25 yard post route. Rogers would add his 4th TD pass of the game when he hit a wide open fullback in the flats on a play action pass at the goalline. The Volunteers would score a TD on their next drive and then record a safety on the kickoff. The Gators would run out the clock after recovering the onside kick attempt.

Rogers would earn his 4th straight player of the game award. He finished 13/24 for 290 yards with 4 TDs. The Gators will host the Kentucky Wildcats in week 5.
