NBA Live Demo

Still don't like this game. Sorry, but the physics and gameplay are still pretty poor to me. The graphics do look good up close but the movement is very unrealistic and disjointed. The players still look stiff, like they have a glaze over them, and slightly hunched. At least the ice skating is gone. The basket still looks cartoon-ish and from the Sega days. I don't think the layups are realistic at all for the most part. How come everything off the glass has the ball hitting the backboard above the square? The jumping is horrendous - i can jump over the backboard it seems. Rebounding is still weak. I like the dribbling with the Right Stick. It's definitely a lot better than last year's game, but I'm sticking with 2k. Each to his own though.

So far I would say the Czar was right. It does move and feel like 2k7/2k8. Especially dribbling moves with the Right stick. That's a positive. Especially since 2k9 felt like the old Live days with the ice skating.

So far so good.

I think you've been playing 2K for too long and can't understand what the physics and momentum are really about so it makes it difficult for a person to get an immediate grip on it with how the controls are. That's OK. It's just like how when the PS1 introduced games with analog controls and most people stuck with digital. Not I, said the cat, and games that used both along with momentum in their games, another thing most weren't used to back then, I ate those up. But like I said, things like that aren't for everybody. People tend to stay comfortable with what they know and not like change

U also spoke on how the ice skating was gone. Did you play Live 09 AND 2K9?? Live had little to no skating when compared to 2K9 and I rode with 2K9, last year. Hell, Live 08 was even better in that category and I mostly played Live 08 than 2K8. Don't hate.
As for dribbling with the right stick, I think that's always been why I felt like Live had a better control scheme than 2K's. It made me feel more like a basketball player NOT a shot stick. Yea, I got used to the shot stick since I only rocked on 2K9 last year but that's not the feeling of basketball being conveyed in a b-ball game, imo.

Everything else u spoke on, eh, those are REALLY your opinions cuz I can't really go there since I haven't played it yet - LOL. But the momentum thing, I don't have to play it to understand based on all the impressions I've read by those who 'get it' cuz I already know what it's like.

Without playing the demo yet, you touched on most of the things that I had trouble articulating about why I disliked the other iterations of Live (PS3) so far. Rebounding has always seemed arbitrary.

It's good to hear that the skating is gone. That's always been a problem. Not so much with the dribble animations, as those have linked together pretty smoothly in the past, but off-ball control has often been difficult with the sliding. (I'm not going to compare titles here, but no, 2K hasn't been great with player control for 2K9, but Live has been shaky regardless of where the competition was.)

I said the same thing playing the demo...it's a better game now but I'm not one for cartoon-ish B-Ball. I'm a D Wade fan and to have him look like he took a bath in butter before he hit the hanger did it for me. I know what I like and Live 10 Demo showed me they have a long way to go. I for one love both games but the "Live franchise as it stands based on this demo, is slipping into the abyss.

TreyIM2 - I think Live did have ice skating...maybe not the skating around that 2k9 had but the momentum was really odd to me...plus everyone was a hunchback. After playing the demo, Live did seem to get rid of skating but it still just felt disjointed. Maybe it is because I've been playing 2k for so long.

str8 atl thuggn - When you said 2k was "stiff" that's exactly how I would describe Live actually. If anything 2k is too smooth which leads to the skating. I downloaded Live to check it out because I want to play the better basketball game. If I think Live is better, I'll get that and not 2k. I don't care which one was better in the past - I'll take the better game. Definitely not a fanboy...I've been complaining about a ton of 2k stuff for a long time and last year, I quit playing because Team Up mode was awful. By your same logic, you're a Live fanboy then...Also, regarding the player graphics, take one look at the players in Live; it looks like they have some sort of shiny gloss over them...It's just strange. The blocking and rebounding are just plain awful too. I'll give you propz for the dribbling controls and the momentum in the demo but everything else just doesn't feel realistic. Each to his own though.

Live is on the rise. You may not like it now, but eventually that may change. If it doesn't...that's cool. You're entitled!

# 10 BroMontana82 @ Sep 14
i hope live is on the rise...there is nothing better for everyone than competition and being able to choose between two really good games. it will only make the other series better.

I havent played the demo yet so ill make judgement until then but judgeing of a 2k9 is far off from being realistic i loved 2k7 like 2k8 but 2k9 was horrible and if live 10 is any better then live 05 im going back to live

I just played the 2k10 draft combine demo.
I've been playing 2k since the Dreamcast.

As much as I hated 2k9 and was willing to give Live a chance this year that chance just ended.

2k is back.

Live attempted to have that 2k feel this year which is a big up but 2k have found there groove again. No sliding.
I have that I'm on the court feeling again. . No more collision animations that ruin the fast break.

I feel for EA because they really tried this year but the beast is back.

Just when I thought I was out they pulled me back in.

# 13 BroMontana82 @ Sep 15
yeah i hear that. i played 2k for DC as well. 2k10 looks like a big upgrade from 2k9...only 3 weeks too.
