Here it is Friday, the 27th, and I am looking forward to the weekend. I have been able to get around an hour in a night after everyone goes to bed (enough time to pay 1 game and do the management stuff) but it has been going well. I have 2 teams going at the moment...the browns...which I just started...and the panthers who are in the 2nd season. Some parts of it have been very frustrating...trying to figure out the emotion thing...which I have given up on by the way...but other parts have been great!!

Since it is the off-season this allows me to get my football fix. My wife watches me play and cheers for the players just like I do...when she decides to stay up and watch for a bit. I will tell you there are times I wonder what the heck they are doing though!! But I am starting to find out what impact myself and my coaches have on that kind of stuff.

I am a data junkie and this hc game is great for that. I still love madden and ncaa for the game action...but when I want to delve into data and numbers this is the game I grab.

I like the weekends so I can split my time...I play a while then go work in the yard or whatever I need to get done...but it looks like rain this weekend so maybe more football time than normal!!

Yeah I love this game. But I still haven't started a franchise because I'm piling up the data to make the best team/playbook/moves when I do dive in.

Oh man...I have a notebook that I keep with me to take notes in. I try to not keep everything on the drafts because I feel that is unfair...but my notes on plays and schemes...well...it is getting bigger every day. Sometimes I feel like it is overkill...but I like having as much info as I can...maybe I am taking this too serious for a gems...but it is a great way to forget life for a while.

Maybe I will learn to type as well...I meant "game" not "gems". Not enough coffee yet today.

The scouting thing haunts me because I know if I was a real coach I'd have a greater knowledge of draftees/players than the game lets you have. I know it's a gameplay balance issue but it just feels off

It is very frustrating. I have to wonder sometimes about the info they do give us as well. I find guys that say their pot is say 93...I draft them...bring them in for camp and their overall drops from say a 82 to a 65. I have no idea why it does that. Then...after you get the official pot it is like a 77. It seems like they give us alot of data that doesnt match...and it doesnt help make a decision...but we dont have enough to cover what we need. Also...what is the deal with those "+" and "-". I saw a guy the other day that had "---Learning", but his Learning was a 89. Doesnt match...I wonder how accurate that stuff is.

Yeah the learning thing is reportedly all over the place. Guys with mad +'s at learning with a unlocked 30 in that category.

I think that the choice of assistant coaches really messes with the ovr potentials somehow.

I wonder if the patch helps with that? I have been trying to figure out how to download it...but I think I need a hard drive to do that. I guess that is what I get for not wanting to spend the other 100 bucks to get a system with a hd in it.

I wonder if the position coaches have that affect as well? Also...what about the ability of the gm to rate that specific position? I may look a little deeper in to that tonight. If my gm does not have alot of ability to scout a certain position I wonder if that impacts the accuracy of his scouting report?

My gm is not rated that high on scouting qbs...I think a level 2 is the max he can go. But he stuck me with a "winner". I scouted this kid like crazy. Numbers out the roof, pot of 96...good awareness and accuracy. But after 2 seasons of twice as many ints as tds I traded him. The new guy I brought in picked up my playbook right away and is now on the pro bowl voting roster.

But I also had alot of guys invited to camp who started to drop their overalls like a rock after camp started. Why would a guy be rated an overall of 84 at the start of camp and after 2 weeks be a 71? I got burned with that the other night. I was at "cut day" and had a rookie that was showing an overall of 83 and unknown potiental. He was fighting for my 5th cb. The guy I already had under contract was a 75/max 78 so I figured what the heck..cut the guy under contract and keep the unsigned fa. Boy...BIG mistake. After camp was over the new guy had dropped to a 68 with a pot of 74. So I then cut him and signed a fa. But I lost the player I had on a 3 yr contract for about 400 a year...

I got to start a franchise and stop scouting prepping.

And the game runs a ton smoother loaded onto the hard drive.

Who do you think you will choose? I have messed around with the Browns (very messed up with draft and cap), the Titans (a fun team but the playbook needed work) and the Jets (went there after my first year with the panthers and that team needed a major overhaul!!). But I am in my 5th year with the panthers now. The playbook was shot and the coaching staff needed some work but I have them in pretty good shape now.

Well...miracles do happen...I made it to the playoffs as a wild card...ran the table and won the sb by a fg in the last 2 minutes of the game!! I fired my dlc. We have alot of talent on that side of the ball (#2 d) but my run defense was sub-par (#28) considering I had vanden bosch, two 90+ dt, and a 91 re. I think I got lucky though on my d-line coach. He is only a 20 overall...but his potential is all 4s and 5s. I thought that it would be too late in the season to get someone half-way decent.

The draft should be good for me. I only need to sign a rolb, lolb, cb and a rg. Everyone else is set up good. I hope to at least get through fa tonite since Iam going to bypass almost everyone. I may see if I can sign some young talent...but that seems to be hit and miss. I am going to be interested to see what happens to scott, the qb I traded to the vikings, he is unrestricted, but his numbers for the viks werent much better than what they were for me. Campbell...who I traded to get as his replacement...ended up with over 4100 yards, 24 tds and 9 ints. I think it worked out well for me.

I broke down and ordered a hd this morning. Some of the glitches get real annoying so I hope the patch will fix them. I got a 20gb...used for $28...I really hope it is big enough...but considering except for my 3 football games nothing else has a patch I think I will be okay.
Heres crossing my fingers to continue to build this team.

I'm going to be the Bears.

They're a salary cap nightmare of epic scale though. I'm going pre-season and doing the draft to minimize the damage a bit. I got to just hold on and not get fired for the first couple of years.

Good luck with that. I looked at them after my first season with the panthers...saved my panthers game because I was so frustrated with them and wanted to see what was out there. After I took the bears job the stc quit...hester got mad so he demanded a trade. Then I looked at the cap...it was still a mess!! Let me know how it goes.

I was so proud of myself. I stated the fa with 31 mil so thought I might look at fixing some holes in my team. But before I did I decided to look at who was going to be up for contract renewal in the next season because I was showing over 62 mil in 2013...boy...am I glad I did. My starting lg, lt, rg, both te's, my starting re, mlb, lolb, 1 of my cb's and my punter are all up for renewal. I think I am going to bypass any fa and try to use the draft to take care of my problems. I have 11 draft picks, but only 1 is above the 4th round...it is number 64. So i am going to be spending the next few days compiling draft data to try to use all of them as wisely as I can
