Who Needs A Win:
Brendan - Washington Redskins
The Skins have had some hard luck so far this season. Despite having one of the league’s best offenses, their defense has let them down. It doesn’t help they lost two of their best defensive players early in the season, and the two safties they expected to start the season have yet to play -- and one who may never play again in Tanard Jackson.
The Steelers aren’t the same team they’ve been in the past and the defense isn’t as stout. This could be a potential shoot-out tomorrow when the Redskins and Steelers meet. In order to keep pace in the ultra-competitive NFC East, the Redskins are the team this week that most need a win.
Week Eight Previews:
New England Patriots (4-3) at St. Louis Rams (3-4)
Why To Watch:
New England narrowly escaped last week against the Jets, and this week have to travel to London to face the Rams in Wembley Stadium. Both teams are in need of a win this week. It remains to be seen if the travel will present a challenge for either team.
X-Factor:
Brendan - RB Stevan Ridley, New England Patriots
Ridley will be counted on heavily as the Rams are easier to run on than to throw on. It also helps the Patriots don’t have to face the Rams in the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams are tough to beat.
Ridley will also be carrying the brunt of the load as Brandon Bolden will be out this week. Danny Woodhead may steal a few carries, but Ridley will be the star of the show tomorrow.
Prediction:
The Patriots have more talent, clearly, and if this game were an actual home game rather than the “home” game it is now, I’d give the Rams more of a chance. I think the Patriots control this game from the start and never let go. Prediction: Patriots 34, Rams 17
Atlanta Falcons (6-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)
Why to Watch:
I mean, they are the last undefeated team, you have to have some interest if this is the week they get picked off. Plus, with Michael Vick, you have to wonder if he is fighting to maintain his starting job.
X-Factor:
Brendan - Philadelphia Secondary
With the new look Atlanta Falcons coming into town, the Philadelphia secondary will need to step up and try and keep Julio Jones and Roddy White in front of them. This won’t be an easy task, others have tried and failed here, no shame in that.
Philadelphia is a different team defensively, than say Washington, and have the ability to contain these receivers. Keeping that potent offense under control will be the key.
Prediction:
Brendan - Atlanta is 6-0 for a reason, and Philadelphia is a train wreck, at times, on offense. All my Eagles fans are confident they can pick the Falcons off. Sorry guys, I don’t see it. Atlanta’s offense is too much for you to handle. Prediction: 24-21 Falcons
