EA + Arcade Basketball = Good Thing
Posted on April 15, 2013 at 05:37 PM.
As you may have heard, EA Canada is supposedly "working" on some new NBA concept, which is has been since 2010, just a concept. I feel as though that while NBA Live/Elite is in the dumps, take as much time as you need to work on that [really should have just built off Live 10], but in the mean time, do what you do best and come back with an arcade basketball game. And for EA, it's a good thing, so my idea would be that this next project be a brand new NBA Street. I got this idea while playing NBA Street: Homecourt and just thinking, "There really needs to be an alternative basketball game on the market."

I feel that EA Canada should build off of Homecourt, while adding elements from the previous iterations of the franchise. So I'm going to run through what I'd like to see in my vision for a new NBA Street.

Pick-Up Game: Keep the 3v3, but also add 2v2 and 1v1 matchups. Also, we should be able to let the CPU play and we watch the game. Have unlockables to achieve through this mode. Retain the spot points feature.

Game Modes: Obviously, you have to have a career mode with a good storyline. I'd like to see something interesting besides the typical made the NBA by way of being the best streetballer or something like that. When games are play, they should have some kind of cutscene to follow after games to keep the story flowing and keep the player interested. I'd also like to have some kind of free-roam aspect, like being able to walk to games and such, like in NBA Ballers: Phenom. Earn unlockables through this mode, obviously.

Outside of the career mode, have different kinds of games to play in such as: Gamebreaker Battle, HORSE, 21, Dunk Contest, 3 Point Shootout, Trick Battle, Back to Basics, Practice mode, Custom Game, and maybe something new.

Creations/Player Editing: Here is where the game adds more to replay value. When you get to create your player, it needs to be in-depth so you can feel that this is really YOUR player. Needs to utilize the EA Game Face. If that isn't available, be able to use the in-game system, allowing for choosing of skin tones, facial structure, hair styles, eye color, and such. Players such be able to have body tattoos for arms, legs, chest, back, and neck; can choose from a wide assortment of gear.

-Gear:
-Headwear: Solid or Striped Headbands. Facemasks and maybe mouthpieces.

-Upper Body: Arm sleeves, undershirts (no sleeve, short and long sleeve), arm bands, finger wraps, finger tape, wrist wraps, wrist tape, adidas arm sleeves, hand wraps, rubberbands, etc.

-Lower Body: Compression shorts, knee pads, braces and sleeves; calf sleeves, leg bands, ankle braces, different sock lengths, striped socks, ankle tape, hex pads, etc.

-Shoes: All kinds from Nike, adidas, Jordan, Converse, Reebok, Under Armour, Spalding, Anta, Li-Ning, Peak, etc.

Something I was thinking about was giving each in-game player their own unique movesets. It's only 30 teams w/ about 4 players to each to total 120 players, not including legend players/teams and other random teams. These movesets would allow every individual player to have their own jumpshots, layups, floaters, dunks, dribble moves, and such all unique to themselves. This would eliminate some of the possible repetitiveness in this game. Players would also have skills unique to them, which would allow them to play more to those strengths, this would allow the game to be more strategic, while at the same time being an easy, pick-up & play game.

Bring back the ability to create our own court. Have options in such as an indoor court or outdoor court. Then just going in-depth with the creation process, to what kind of goal, net, rim, floor style, and the works. Have a lot to the point where you can create fantasy courts and stuff.

Online: Can't really speak to much on it at the moment, due to my rare play online.

Unlockables: This should include locked courts, basketballs, legend players, special moves, gear/outfits/shoes, and other special things.

Needs roster updates so players will remain up to date over the course of time and what-not.

All I have in ideas at the moment.

I have to agree with the statement. I've been playing NBA Jam: On Fire Edition lately and it's great. Also, the NBA Street games were great. To this day NBA Street Vol.2 is still one of my favorite games of all time.
