AL East Notes: Hellickson, Yankees
By Tim Dierkes [May 15, 2012 at 8:35am ET]

Just before the Toronto Blue Jays open their home series against the New York Yankees, Tim Dierkes takes a look at some of the American League East rumours.
  • Ken Rothensal of ESPN reports that the Blue Jays could be seeking to add another outfielder following the injuries to both Melky Cabrera and youngster Anthony Gose. Rothensal also points out that they will most likely be looking at someone that they could possibly move once the two outfielders come back from their injuries.
  • With speedy outfielder Brett Gardner doing well in his rehab assignment in Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Yankees are looking to send one of their outfielders to Triple-A. However, none of their current outfielders (Brennan Boesch, Vernon Wells, Curtis Granderson, Ichiro) have any options remaining on their contracts. This means that they will likely have to pass either Boesch or Wells through waivers, where a team in need of outfielders, such as the Blue Jays could pick them up.
  • There have been many reports that the Blue Jays are looking at Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to help out in a rotation that currently features two unproven starters with Brandon Morrow on the 15-day disabled list.
