Jays Best Division Foes

TORONTO -- Back at home after a lengthy road trip to Los Angeles, Oakland and Minnesota, the Toronto Blue Jays showed that all the travel had no effect on their play, as they beat their division rival Tampa Bay Rays 5-3. Jeff Baker got the Blue Jays off to a great start as Colby Rasmus started off the bottom of the second inning with a triple, followed by a double by Baker into center field to give R.A. Dickey and the Jays a quick 1-0 lead.

The Rays weren�t inclined to give up so quickly, as fan favorite third baseman Evan Longoria hit a towering two run home run that would give the Rays a 2-1 lead. �My knuckleball just kinda flattened out.� said Dickey about the home run after the game. The Blue Jays would get right back on offense, with Edwin Encarnacion hitting a homerun with Jose Bautista on base following a leadoff single. With his team up 3-2, Dickey held the lead the remainder of his start, lasting seven innings and accumulating five strikeouts while allowing eight hits.

The Blue Jays added one run on a home run from an unlikely source. Speedster Emilio Bonifacio hit his first homerun of the season, giving the Jays the 4-2 edge in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Blue Jays reliever Steve Delabar gave up his first earned run of the season when he gave up a line drive single into center field off the bat of veteran Luke Scott that would score rookie phenom Wil Myers from second base to cut the lead to 5-3.

That would be as close as the Rays would get though as Darren Oliver would come on to shutdown the eighth inning, followed by closer Casey Janssen, who would notch his 14th save of the season.
