Mothers Day Fireworks, Jays Slug Their Way To Victory
MINNESOTA -- With the pink bats honoring mothers all around the world, the Blue Jays hit five home runs to win their four game set against the Minnesota Twins. Rich Harden wasn’t feeling the motherly love, as he started the game on a very rough note. Harden allowed back to back home runs to Jose Reyes and Colby Rasmus to lead off the game. Jose Bautista would reach on a walk but Harden would be able to get Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion to ground into the double play. Adam Lind would hit his third homerun of the season to cap off an explosive first inning.

Southpaw Ricky Romero had a decent outing, his third since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. The former first round pick of the Blue Jays threw 91 pitches in his outing, recording nine strikeouts and two runs on three hits. The two runs both came in the bottom of the third inning, when he started the inning by walking former Blue Jays farmhand Darin Mastrioanni. Three pitches later, Jamey Carroll doubled to the wall, allowing the speedy Mastrioanni to score from first base. With Carroll advancing to third on the throw to the plate, all-star catcher Joe Mauer would groundout to second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, allowing Carroll to score from third.

That would be all the Twins hitters would get though, as Romero would bounce back and shutdown the Twins for the next three innings. Jose Bautista hit his 11th homerun of the season off of Harden in the top of the third inning before the Twins managed to score their only two runs of the ballgame. Things would stay the same for both teams, with Esmil Rogers, Sergio Santos, and veteran Darren Oliver all coming out of the bullpen for the Jays and pitching shutout outings.

Luis Perdomo would enter the ballgame for the Twins with two out in the fifth inning. He would do a stellar job until the top of the ninth inning, when he served up Adam Lind’s second homerun of the game and fourth of the season. He would be replaced by Rafael Perez following the solo blast. Lind had the following to say about his two homer game, “I just tried to put the ball in play, and voila! It goes over the wall for a homerun.” he said with a chuckle. Twins long time manager Ron Gardenhire didn’t find the home runs to funny, saying “someone must’ve forgotten to tell them the home run derby is later.”

The Blue Jays head back home to the Rogers Center to take on the Tampa Bay Rays, who are trailing the Jays and Yankees in third place in the American League East Standings.
