Jays Top Twins In High Scoring Affair, Gose Injured
MINNESOTA -- The Toronto Blue Jays piled hit after hit in their 8-5 win over the Minnesota Twins in game three of their four game set at Target Field. Both teams finished with 14 hits in the ballgame, concluding to eight runs for the Jays and five runs for the Twins. The Blue Jays got off to a fast start as they managed to send seven batters up to the plate in the top of the first inning, leading to an Edwin Encarnacion home run that would score Colby Rasmus to give the Jays a quick two run lead against former Mets pitcher Mike Pelfrey (2-2).

Josh Johnson (5-2) would quickly give the Twins one run back as back to back singles by Jamey Carroll and Eduardo Escobar would give the Twins runners on first and second. All-star catcher Joe Mauer would capitalize, lining the third pitch of the at-bat into right field for an RBI single that would score Carroll from second base.

The Blue Jays however, didn’t let that faze them, as they managed to score another two runs as Emilio Bonifacio would single to lead off the inning. Bonifacio would move up to second base on a base hit by freshly called up outfielder Anthony Gose, who was making his season debut with the team. Bonifacio would steal third base for his 21st stolen base of the season. Things didn’t go as smoothly for Gose, as he was picked off by Pelfrey for the first out of the inning at first base. Gose would steal second base in the fourth inning, but left the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Jose Reyes would promptly double on the next pitch, scoring Bonifacio from third with ease.

The Blue Jays would go on the score four more runs in the next 1 ⅔ innings, giving them a comfy 7-1 lead. Josh Johnson was cruising along until the Twins scored in the fourth and sixth inning. “JJ [Johnson] had a pretty good game. He had great command of his fastball.” said Jays catcher Josh Thole, who picked up an RBI on his groundout in the top of the eighth inning.

The Twins managed to make it interesting for the Jays, as they slowly started to mount a comeback. Down 8-3 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, center fielder Joe Benson hit a sacrifice fly to center fielder Colby Rasmus that allowed the hero from yesterday night, Wilkin Ramirez, to score. Being a 8-4 game, Brian Dozier, who advanced to third base on Benson’s sacrifice fly, scored easily on Eduardo Escobar’s triple. That was as close as the Twins would get though, as Mickey Storey would work out of the jam, keeping Escobar at third to end the ballgame.

The Jays will try to go for the series win tomorrow with lefty Ricky Romero (1-1) going up against former Athletics pitcher Rich Harden (2-1).
