Cespedes Drives In Three, A's Split Series With Jays
OAKLAND -- In front of 19, 340 fans at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, the Athletics avenged their previous nights loss against the Toronto Blue Jays. Yoenis Cepsedes led the offense for the A’s driving in three runs with a triple and a double. The Athletics are in a tight battle for the American League West lead with rivals, the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners, who are off to a surprisingly hot start through the first month and a half of the season.

R.A. Dickey (1-3) continues to struggle on the young season as he lost yet another ballgame. The loss was mainly because of the lack of defense behind him, as five of the six runs that he allowed during his start against the Athletics were unearned runs, all coming off a throwing error by third baseman Brett Lawrie. “I’ve gotta be able to make that throw. If I make that throw, R.A. [Dickey] is out of the inning and we have a solid chance to win the ballgame.” said Lawrie.

Lawrie is young and is still learning the defensive aspects of playing at third base. The energetic young man made his third error in 27 games this afternoon. When Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was asked about the error all he would say was “mistakes were made”.

Tom Milone (4-0) is off to a scorching hot start to kick of the season as he improved to 4-0 after throwing eight solid innings allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five batters. Ryan Cook came on in the ninth inning and pitched a solid inning, giving up a hit to Lawrie, but getting slow Blue Jays catcher Henry Blanco to ground out into a double play to stifle the Blue Jays thoughts of a comeback and preserve the victory.

The Blue Jays continue their long road trip with a four game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Drew Hutchison is expected to make his first start of the season for the Blue Jays in place of the injured Brandon Morrow. He will be opposed by Twins starter Brian Duensing.
