Josh Johnson Struck Out Ten Batter and Bautista and Lawrie Combined To Power The Offense

Johnson Strikes Out Ten, Lawrie and Bautista Homer In Jays Win
LOS ANGELES -- Josh Johnson had a big smile on his face while walking out of the Blue Jays clubhouse in Los Angeles after his team defeated the Los Angeles Angels by a narrow margin of 2-1. According to manager John Gibbons, it couldn’t have been done without him.

“Josh threw the ball real well today. He had superb command of his fastball and his offspeed and breaking pitches. You can tell by the ten strikeouts he had.” said Gibbons. Johnson struck out ten batters in a solid eight innings of work before he handed the ball over to Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen, who pitched a quick bottom of the ninth for his eleventh save of the season.

It was a very quiet game on the offensive side of the ball as the two teams combined for just three runs on a total of twelve hits. However, seven of the twelve combined hits in the game were extra-base hits. Jose Bautista hit his ninth home run of the season and Brett Lawrie drove in the winning run with his fourth home run of the season to lead the offense for the Blue Jays. Howie Kendrick had an RBI double that drove in the only run of the game for the Angels, who have lost three of their last four ball games to the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays continue their west coast road trip as they stop by O.co Coliseum for a quick two game series against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. Ricky Romero will make his second start of the season and will be opposed by big righty Bartolo Colon.
