Injuries Go Throughout The Blue Jays System

LOS ANGELES -- After watching Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow walk off the field with an apparent arm injury, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos got some more injury news, this time from the trainers in Double-A New Hampshire.

Rick Brenner, general manager of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats called to inform Anthopoulos that pitching prospect Matt Smoral has left his start last night with the Fisher Cats in the third inning and after undergoing an MRI in Dunedin, it has been determined that Smoral has a shoulder tear and is expected to miss two to three months. "Rick called just to let me know about the situation with Smoral and about who we would promote to New Hampshire to take Matt's [Smoral] spot on the roster." said Anthopoulos.

But first, Anthopoulos will have to deal with the big issue: Brandon Morrow. It was announced this morning that Morrow is expected to miss one to two weeks an arm injury and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Anthopoulos did not release the severity of the injury but did state that Morrow was experiencing some "forearm tightness" on his pitching arm.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have called up righthander Drew Hutchison from Triple-A Buffalo. Hutchison started some games with the Blue Jays last season before starting the 2012 season in Triple-A after the Blue Jays' blockbuster trades that filled the rotation. Southpaw Ricky Romero and Drew Hutchison will likely be compared for the fifth starter's spot in the rotation when Morrow returns from his injury.

The Blue Jays continue their four game set against the Los Angeles Angels tonight with Mark Buehrle going up against Jason Vargas in Los Angeles, CA. Game start is at 10:05 PM ET.
