Encarnacion Hit His 5th Homer Of The Season And Led The Blue Jays To Their Second Straight Win

Costly Victory: Blue Jays Lose Morrow En Route To Win

LOS ANGELES -- Things were rolling smoothly for the Toronto Blue Jays all throughout the game as manager John Gibbons watched his starter Brandon Morrow (5-1) strikeout seven batters. Arguably the Blue Jays best starter so far this season, Morrow winced in pain holding his throwing arm after delivering a pitch to Angels center fielder Peter Bourjos. Morrow left the game with the trainers and Darren Oliver (1-0) was brought into the game to finish off the Angels.
After the game, Gibbons told the media that Morrow had told the trainers that he felt a “sharp pain in his right forearm area”. He is expected to undergo a precautionary MRI tomorrow but is expected to make his next start.
Jose Reyes started off the offense for the Blue Jays as he hit a sacrifice fly that was caught by a stellar diving play by Peter Bourjos. Emilio Bonifacio then tagged at third base and scored easily following his triple to lead off the top of the third inning. Edwin Encarnacion helped contribute to the offense with his fifth home run of the season.
The Angels have now been shutout for a total of 23 consecutive innings following back to back shutouts by three combined Blue Jays pitchers. “We have to revert back to the old see ball hit ball method of baseball if we want to win some games. Obviously the injury to Mike [Trout] has hurt the offense, but that’s no excuse to start losing ballgames.” said Angels manager Mike Sioscia.
The Blue Jays have now won their second straight game after losing two straight against the Texas Rangers. They will try to take the four games series tomorrow in game three by sending lefty Mark Buehrle (3-1, 0.91) to the bump against Jason Vargas (2-2, 2.50). Buehrle has pitched very well for the Blue Jays this season going 3-1 with an ERA under one.
