Jays Make 4 Massive Moves to Stat Year 3!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 05:03 PM.
World Series Champs Toronto make 3 massive moves to start the new season. The team needed to shuffle the lineup due to contracts (1 year remaining) and to get a bit more salary room. Here they are:

- Toronto trades RF Jayson Heyward to Tampa for 3B Evan Longoria. Wow, many though Longoria was untouchable, but when Toronto shopped Heyward around because of his injury rehab Tampa jumped on it by offering Longoria 1-1. Longoria needed a fresh start and Toronto was the perfect fit, since they can move Bautista back to RF and play Longoria at 3B. Tampa gets a nice young OF in Heyward who improved to 93 overall and should be a stud for now and the future.

- Toronto trades 2B/SS Maicer Izturis, SS Ralph King (AAA) to Giants for SS/2B Ryan Theriot. Izturis was awful for Toronto last season and they like the upgrade at backup middle infielder. San Francisco gets a similar type player and SS depth for their AAA team.

- Toronto trades C JP Arencieba, 3B Danny Valencia, OF Ezequiel Carrera to Detroit for C Alex Avila, RP Joaquin Beniot, LF Andy Dirks. This is a big trade because JP hit 11 HR last season, but is due for a massive extension after the season. Valencia should be full time but won't after Jackson is done rehabbing. Toronto gets a nice Catcher who will hit for power and contact, plus they get a nice setup man after losing Cordero to retirement. They also get Dirks who is a piece in the next deal.

Toronto Trades 1B Mark Teixiera, SP Brandon Beachy, LF Andy Dirks to the Angels for 1B Kendry Morales, SP CJ Wilson, and CF Peter Bourjos. This move suprised many as Tex was a big part of the title. The team needed to free up some sallary and get a nice power 1B in Morales, plus they upgrade their SP in Wilson who should add to this stud rotation. Bourjos will be a nice addition to the OF.

Great move to get Longoria, didn't think Tampa would be willing to let him go, but they did get a great player in Heyward. Looking forward to the next season and seeing how you off season acquisitions pan out.
