BlueJays09's Dynasty Blog
The Jays improve their record to 8-1, with the only loss of the first month of the season coming to Boston again. The team has been up and down with the bat for the 1st month, and 2B Howie Kendrick is really struggling so far this season (See Stats). Jimenez went for 2 wins in his 2 Blue Jays games, 1 against his former team the Indians in game 9.
Game 4: Blue Jays 6, Angels 0:
W: Jimenez (2-0) - 4IP 2H, 0ER, 6K
L: Santana (0-1) - 3.2IP 10H, 6ER, BB
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 1/3 R, SB
Kendrick - 1/3 R, SB
Bautista - 2/3 HR(2), 3RBI, 2R, 2B
Howard - 2/2 RBI, R, 2B, BB
Lawrie - 1/3 RBI, K
Freese - 2/2 RBI, 2B, SB
Arencieba - 1/2 R, 2B
Jimenez - 4IP, 2H, 0ER, 6K
- The Jays really poured on a nice performance against LA under a very nice start from Jimenez in his 1st game with Toronto. He pitched 4 innings, allowing only 1 hit, and striking out 6. The offense started in inning 1, when RBI singles by Howard, and Lawrie made it 2-0. Next inning, the strategy to acquire Howard so Bautista don't get walked as much paid off. With men on 2nd and 3rd, Bautista wasn't walked and drilled a 3-Run HR out to make it 5-0. In the 4th, Freese hit a RBI single to make it 6-0 and end the scoring.
Game 5: Blue Jays 3, Royals 0:
W: Alvarez (1-0) - 3.1IP 2H, 0ER (SV: Santos, H: Howell)
L: DeJesus (0-1) - 4IP 6H, 3ER, BB, K
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 1/2 R, SB
Bautista - 2/2 HR(3), 3RBI, R
Escobar - 1/2 R
- The Jays get another shutout victory, this one coming behind Alvarez who pitched 3.1 innings of 2 hit shutout ball. In the 1st, Bautista hit a RBI single to make it 1-0. In the 3rd he came through again with a 2-Run HR, his 2nd in as many games, and third on the year. That would be all she wrote, 3-0 Jays.
Game 6: Blue Jays 1, Rays 0:
W: Romero (1-0) - 4IP 1H, 0ER, 4K (SV: Santos)
L: Price (0-2) - 5IP 4H, 1ER, 3K
Blue Jays:
Lawrie - 1/2 R, SB
Brown - 1/2 RBI
- 3 games, 3 shutouts. You knew this would probably be 1-0 with 2 all star lefties on the mound in Price and Romero. Romero got the better end pitching 4 innings and only allowing 1 hit while fanning 4. The only offense came when Lawrie singled, stole 2nd, and was driven home by a Domonic Brown RBI single. Thats all the Jays would need to take the 1-0 victory.
Game 7: Blue Jays 0, Boston 5:
W: Beckett (2-0) - 5IP 3H, 0ER
L: Beachy (0-1) - 3IP, 5H, 2ER, 1K
Red Sox:
Gonzalez - 1/3 HR, 3RBI, R
Pedroia - 1/2 HR, RBI, R
Ortiz - 2/3, HR, RBI, R
- Well we knew all good things would come to an end. The Jays could only manage 3 hits vs. Beckett, and Boston scored all their runs off Homers. In the 1st, Pedroia hit a solo HR, and in the 3rd Ortiz hit a solo HR. Gonzalez ended the scoring by hitting a 3-Run HR off Veras in the 5th to finish the game 5-0 Sox.
Game 8: Blue Jays 2, Athletics 1 (7 Innings):
W: Villanueva (2-0) - 2IP 0H, 0ER, 2K
L: Braden (1-1) - 6IP 6H, 2ER, 4K, BB
Blue Jays:
Lawrie - 1/3 HR(1), RBI, R
Arencieba - 1/2 HR(1), RBI, R
Chacin - 5IP 2H, 1ER, 2K
Athletics:
Smith - 1/2 RBI, K
- The Jays take a great game in 7 innings off a walk off HR by Brett Lawrie. The fans loved that the Canadian Kid won it for them. Chacin went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on only 2 hits, and fanning 2 in the no decision. There was no score until the top of 5, when After a Taylor double, and steal of 3rd Seth Smith hit a RBI Single to make it 1-0. The bottom of the 5th, saw JP Arencieba smack his 1st HR of the year, a solo shot to tie it 1-1. We would stay tied until the bottom of 7 when Lawrie smacked a walk off HR to win it 2-1 for Toronto.
Game 9: Blue Jays 3, Indians 0:
W: Jimenez (3-0) - 3IP 4H, 0ER, 4K (SV: Santos, H: Cordero)
L: Gomez (0-2) - 5IP 10H, 3ER, 4BB, 2K
Blue Jays:
Bautista - 1/3 R
Howard - 2/3 R, 2B, K
Lawrie - 2/2 2RBI, R, BB
Escobar - 1/2 RBI, K
- The Jays take the last game of the month with another Jimenez shutout vs. the team he was just traded from. He pitched 3 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 4 in the shutout. Hes now allowed 6 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 10 in 2 games with Toronto. The offense started in the 2nd when Lawrie 2 RBI single made it 2-0. The only other offense was in the 5th, when Escobar drove in a RBI single to make it 3-0.
