Toronto Blue Jays - Games 1-3
Posted on March 28, 2012 at 03:29 PM.
The Jays start off the year with a 3-0 record, winning 1 blowout game against the White Sox 9-2, but getting 2 close games against Texas 4-3 in the 5th, and Baltimore in the 7th inning, when the Jays bats came alive to take it 5-1 after a 1-1 game going into 2 extra innings. Ryan Howard has been a beast in the first 3 games picking up 2 home runs, while Bautista, and Jackson have also went deep so far in this young season. Pitching has looked rough so far, as Romero started where he left off in his loss vs. Seattle in the playoffs with a poor outing vs. Texas. Beachy, and Chacin haven't looked great either but its only the first start. SS Maicer Izturis has been injured in game 2, and will be out 11 days with a sore elbow. Betancourt was called up from AAA to play while hes out, but will be sent back down very shortly, when Escobar gets back from his rehab stint in AAA (he should be back by game 5).

Game 1: Blue Jays 4, Rangers 3:
W: Villanueva (1-0), L: Ogando (0-1), SV: Santos (1)
Blue Jays:
Kendrick - 2/3 2R, K
Bautista - 2/3 RBI, R, 2B
Howard - 2/3 HR(1), 3RBI, R, K
Romero - 3IP 7H, 3ER, 2K
Rangers:
Kinsler - 1/3 RBI, K
Cruz - 3/3 HR, 2RBI, R
Felix - 3.2IP 6H, 3ER, 4K

- The Jays, and Romero started off terrible. In inning 1, Cruz blasted a 2-Run HR off Romero to make it 2-0. The next inning, Kinsler's RBI single made it 3-0 and it looked bad for the Jays early as they couldn't hit Feliz's 100MPH fastball. It wasn't until inning 4, when after Kendrick and Bautista both singled, Ryan Howard stepped up and showed why the Jays wanted him, drilling a 3-Run HR over the fence to tie the game 3-3. Next inning, Bautista came through in the clutch doubling home Kendrick to take the 4-3 lead. Santos would come in to pitch the bottom of the 5th, and that would be it.

Game 2: Blue Jays 5, Orioles 1 (7 Innings):
W: Cordero (1-0), L: Matusz (0-1)
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 1/4 HR(1), RBI, R
Freese - 3/3 R
Lawrie - 1/3 R
Jay - 0/0 R, SB
Barajas - 1/1 2RBI, R, 2B
Brown - 2/3 2RBI
Beachy - 3IP 4H, 1ER, 4K
Orioles:
Markakis - 1/3 RBI
Matusz - 6.2IP 10H, 5ER

- The Jays take another tough match, where the bench came in and won it for them in a 4 run 7th inning. Beachy got off to a rocky start allowing 4 hits including a Markakis to single home a run and make it 1-0 early. He would settle down and play 2 more shutout innings. In the 4th, Domonic Brown's RBI single tied the game after Jon Jay was subbed in for Arencieba to pinch run, and stole 2nd base. There was no more action until the top of the 7th, when Barajas came in to pinch hit, and drove a double to the wall scoring 2 runs. Brown would get up a hit an RBI single to score Barajas, and Jackson would drive a solo HR to center field to make it 5-1, game over.

Game 3: Blue Jays 9, White Sox 2:
W: Chacin (1-0), L: Danks (0-1)
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 1/3 RBI
Bautista - 2/3 HR(1), RBI, 2R
Howard - 3/3 HR(2), 2RBI, 3R
Freese - 1/3 R
Lawrie - 1/3 R
Arencieba - 2/3 4RBI, 3B, R
Brown - 2/3 RBI, R, 2-SB
Chacin - 3IP 4H, 2ER, 2K
White Sox:
Ramirez - 1/2 2RBI
Danks - 3.2IP 9H, 5ER, BB

- This game was an offensive explosion for Toronto. In the 1st, Bautista hit a solo HR, to make it 1-0. Next inning, Brown hit an RBI single, and Jackson an RBI single to make it 3-0. The 3rd inning saw Chicago try and come back with Ramirez's 2-RBI single to make it 3-2, but Toronto would explode in the same inning, starting with a Ryan Howard 2-Run HR, and Arencieba's 3-RBI triple with the bases loaded to make it 8-2. In the 5th, Arencieba would drive in another with a RBI single to finish the score at 9-2.
