Games 36-39 (Blue Jays)
Posted on March 25, 2012 at 04:24 PM.
Toronto got 3 wins vs. the Yankees, Rays, and White Sox but got beaten 5-0 vs. Texas in game 39. The season is getting closer to the end, and the Jays are number 1 in the AL East with a 32-7 record. They took a bad loss in the game vs. New York, as SS Yunel Escobar after a great diving play injured his groin and will be out 31+ days and was placed on the 15-Day DL. SS Eliot Johnson was called up from AAA and will spell Omar Vizquel who is expected to get the bulk of the action at SS.

Game 36: Blue Jays 5, Rays 1:
W: Alvarez (6-1), L: Moore (1-6)
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 1/3 HR(3), RBI, R
Bautista - 2/3 HR(13), RBI, R
Lind - 1/3 R, 2B, 2K
Lawrie - 1/2 R, K
K.Johnson - 1/2 HR(10), 3RBI, R, K
Alvarez - 4IP, 3H, 1ER, 3K
Rays:
Moore - 1IP 6H, 5ER, K
Longoria - 1/2 HR, RBI, R, K

- The Jays got another good start from their rookie Alvarez who gets his 6th win of the season with 4 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball fanning 3. His only blunder came in the 4th when Longoria got a solo HR off of him. The Jays put up all their runs in inning 1 which seems to be a habit of theirs. Austin Jackson started off the game with a lead off inside the park HR after Joyce missed the diving catch. Bautista also hit a solo HR to take the lead in Home Runs for the league. Johnson finished off the scoring with a 3-Run HR, his 9th. Final Score, 5-1.

Game 37: Blue Jays 2, Yankees 1:
W: Beachy (7-1), L: Hughes (3-3), SV: Santos (14)
Blue Jays:
Lawrie - 2/2 HR(6), RBI, R
Lind - 1/2 RBI
Bautista - 2/2 R, 2B
Beachy - 3.1IP 5H, 1ER, 5K
Yankees:
Granderson - 0/1 RBI, SF
Hughes - 4IP 7H, 2ER, BB

- The Jays take this close game off a nice game from Beachy in his 2nd game with Toronto. He pitched 3.1 innings of 5 hit, 1 run ball, striking out 5. The Jays started the scoring in the 2nd off a Lawrie solo HR, his 6th of the season. Next inning, Granderson hit a Sacrifice Fly scoring Jeter. In the 4th, Lind hit a RBI single up the gap to score Bautista after his double got him in scoring position to end the game 2-1.

Game 38: Blue Jays 9, White Sox 0:
W: Luebke (3-3), L: Sale (3-3)
Blue Jays:
Jackson - 2/3 2RBI, R, 2B
Bautista - 1/2 R, 2B
Lind - 1/3 2RBI, 2R, 3B
Lawrie - 1/2 2RBI, R, SF
Arencieba - 1/3 HR(7), 2RBI, R
Young - 1/3 R, 2B
Gutierrez - 1/1 R, 2B, BB
Vizquel - 1/2 RBI
Luebke - 3.1IP 2H, 0ER, 5K
White Sox:
Sale - 1IP 7H, 6ER, 2BB

- Toronto blew out the White Sox behind 3.1 innings of 2 hit shutout, 5 strikeout ball from Cory Luebke. The offense started in the 1st after Lind hit a 2 RBI single, Lawrie a RBI single, Arencieba a 2-Run HR, and Vizquel a RBI single to make it 6-0. There would be no more offense until the 4th, as Austin Jackson smacked a 2 RBI double, and Lawrie hit a Sacrifice Fly to end the scoring 9-0.

Game 39: Blue Jays 0, Rangers 5:
W: Lewis (3-4), L: Romero (4-2)
Blue Jays:
Romero - 3.2IP 6H, 2ER, 2K
Rangers:
Napoli - 2/3 HR, 2RBI, R
Cruz - 1/3 HR, 3RBI, R, K
Lewis - 5IP 4H, 0ER, K

- This was a bad game for Toronto only mustering 4 hits off Colby Lewis. Romero, after a great start, has now found a no decision and 2 Losses in his last 3, and will need to pick it up for the Jays. The offense came by 2- Home Runs to Napoli, a 2-Run HR off Romero, and Cruz, a 3-Run HR off Oliver to set the score 5-0 final.
