Games 8-11 (Blue Jays)
Posted on March 19, 2012 at 07:26 PM.
The Jays go 3-1 through the next 4 games picking up a win vs. the Angels and 2 shutout victories vs. Oakland and Minnesota. They lost to the Rangers however due to a pitching crash as Alvarez got injured in inning 3 and will be out 11 days (plans on making his next start). McGowan pitched a great game vs. Oakland and will make things very difficult for the GM when Drabek gets back in vs. Tampa (in next 4 game set). Adam Lind has been a beast hitting 6 HR over the 1st 11 games and leads the team and the league in HR and RBI. Bautista is starting to get back together after that shoulder injury and will look to improve his power stats.

Game 8: Blue Jays 6, Rangers 8 (6 Innings):
W: Adams (1-0), L: Cordero (0-1), SV: Nathan
Blue Jays:
Escobar - 1/3 R
Bautista - 2/3 HR(2), 2RBI, R
Lind - 1/3 2B, R
Lawrie - 2/3 2-2B, RBI, R
Arencieba - 2/3 HR(2), 2RBI, R
Rasmus - 1/3 HR(1), RBI, R, K
Alvarez - 2.2IP 4H, 2ER, 4K
Rangers:
Andrus - 1/4 RBI, R, 2K
Young - 3/4 RBI, R, 2B
Napoli - 2/3 RBI, 2R, K
Beltre - 2/3 RBI, R, 2-2B
Kinsler - 2/3 2RBI, R, 2B
Murphy - 0/3, RBI
Darvish - 3IP 6H, 4ER, 2K

- This was a very weird loss for Toronto. Texas got out to a 2-0 start in the 2nd inning as Napoli and Beltre both knocked in an RBI single and double. The same inning, Bautista nailed a 2 run HR to tie the game. Next inning, Murphy grounded into a double play to score 1, and Kinsler hit a 2 run, double to make it 5-2. Alvarez hurt his elbow on the play and would be forced to leave. Arencieba smacked a 2 run HR the next inning to cut it to 5-4 and Lawrie would double home a run to make it 5-5 in the 5th inning. In the 6th, Cordero allowed an RBI single by Andrus and an error by Escobar allowed 2 more runs to come in as he airmailed one into the dugout. Rasmus would hit a solo shot in the 6th as well but thats all she wrote.

Game 9: Blue Jays 4, Angels 1:
W: Cecil (1-0), L: Santana (0-2)
Blue Jays:
Escobar - 2/3 2R
Lind - 2/2 HR(5), 3RBI, R
Rasmus - 1/2 HR(2), RBI, R
Cecil - 3.2IP 4H, 0ER, BB, 3K
Angels:
Morales - 2/2 HR, RBI, R
Santana - 5IP 6H, 4ER, K

- The Jays played an impressive game with the good look Angels. Cecil pitched a nice game playing 3.2 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while fanning 3. Lind hit a 2 run shot in the 1st, his 5th of the year. and Rasmus hit a solo shot for his 2nd in as many games to make it 3-0. Lind singled again in the 3rd to make it 4-0 and the only mistake by the pitching staff was a HR allowed to Morales by Cordero who hasn't looked good to start the year.

Game 10: Blue Jays 4, Athletics 0:
W: McGowan (1-0), L: Milone (1-1)
Blue Jays:
Rasmus - 1/3 R
Lind - 1/3 RBI, R, 2B
Lawrie - 1/3 HR(2), 3RBI, R
Vizquel - 0/2, R
McGowan - 3.2IP 4H, 0ER, 4K
Athletics:
Milone - 5IP 6H, 4ER, BB

- The Jays looked impressive again as McGowan played 3.2 scoreless innings fanning 4 with 4 hits allowed. He should make the next start even though Drabek is off the DL and should be ready from his minor league rehab stint. The GM said McGowan will get his next start and if he plays well will continue to. Drabek will be called back up in need be in the future. Nothing really happened until inning 3 where the Jays scored all their runs. Lind hit an RBI double, and Lawrie smashed a 3 run HR to make it 4-0. That would be the game as the A's couldn't string together any hits.

Game 11: Blue Jays 3, Twins 0:
W: Romero (3-0), L: Baker (1-2), SV: Santos (4)
Blue Jays:
Escobar - 2/3 R
Johnson - 1/3 RBI, R, 2B
Lind - 3/3 HR(6), 2RBI, R, 2B
Romero - 4IP 2H, 0ER, 6K
Twins:
Baker - 5IP 8H, 3ER, K

- With consecutive shutouts, led by a 2 hit 6 K performance from Romero, the Jays pulled ahead of the Red Sox for 1st in the division. The GM said he knew the team could compete with the best and says he hopes it continues. Lind and Johnson both hit RBI doubles in the 1st, and Lind also hit a solo HR in the 5th for the 3-0 win.

* Sorry don't have time for stats/standings so I will include them in the next post*

Nice to see an update on this.

I'm guessing with that level of play, you probably passed the Red Sox by now?

Thanks man ...1 game ahead...Red Sox are ballin though and I have had an easy schedule so far. My 2 losses are against Boston and Texas and only top team I have won against are the Angels. Im getting mixed reactions from my SP. Besides Romero/Chacin they worry me lol. Cecil had a bad and good game if it wasn't for the 5th inning comeback i
I would have lost. Alvarez got hurt against Texas and Villanueva came in cold and allowed 3 runs which sucked. and my 5th spot is a mess right now since Drabek had a great game but got hurt and McGowan got a nice start in his game. Dunno what to do about that...might keep McGowan going until he fails and bring Drabek back. Anyway enough ranting. I was busy tonight so snuck my updates in quick. Tomorrow will be another 4 game update and updated Stats/Standings/Transactions. Thanks for reading ...sorry for the rant LOL
