Times were good in Houston. The team had two all stars and a great coach, but after a injury filled season for Ming and McGrady the Rockets had a losing record and the 8th pick. They chose Rudy Gay, but then immediately traded him to Memphis for proven veteran Shane Battier. At the time, scouts were loving the potential they saw in Rudy and he lived up to it. If Rudy had stayed the Rockets would still be a very similiar team today. The rockets still made the playoffs in 2006-07 with Battier but With Rudy it would have been the same. The Rockets then would still draft Scola and Brooks setting up a solid rotation for the post McGrady/Ming era. The Rockets would have followed a very similar path and would likely be almost the same team but with a star at the 3. Imagine how this upcoming season would be with a Rudy/Lin combo. Also, the rockets may have never gone after Dwight if Rudy was around or an offer of Rudy Gay in the package they offered could have landed Dwight in Houston instead of LA.
