What If? NBA Version
Posted on August 17, 2012 at 11:13 PM.
It's one of the most common questions in the world.
What If?
Now think about it in sports terms. I'll be posting a "What If" Roster/Lineup everyday.
So let's take a look back at all the trades of the past to see "What If they never happened?"
First Edition
The NBA
As a Hawks Fan I thought I'd start with them.

1955-56 St. Louis Hawks
Starting Lineup
C Bill Russell
PF Bob Pettit
SF Al Ferrari
SG Jack Stephens
PG Bob Harrison

A Bill Russell-Bob Pettit duo would have been a force to be reckoned with for years. Unfortunately, St. Louis was sold on St. Louis native Ed Macauley and traded Bill to the Celtics, the Hawks went on to play Russell's Celtics in the Finals four times, only winning the matchup once which is still the franchise's only championship.

Feel free to comment.

This would have changed the NBA as we know it. There's a good chance Atlanta takes the place of Boston's dynasty as they basically switch places, maybe even win more, literally a game changing defensive center, the best in the league, combined with the best offensive forward in the league would have made for maybe teh best frontcourt ever. The Celtics would still be great but would have a hard time getting past the Hawks going against Russell. Hard to imagine this happening though, Red Aurebach had his sights set on Russell and was prepared to get him at any cost, it was destined to happen.

The thing is The Hawks had not 1 but 2! Chances to be the dynasty instead of the Celtics, most people don't know the Hawks (at the time Tri City Blackhawks) drafted Bob Cousy, but he refused to report so they gave him to the Stags who then folded and Cousy made his way to the Celtics, also that same year a young coach by the name of Red Auerbach left the Blackhawks after the organization traded his favorite player. After all this the hawks left for Milwaukee, both could have still happened although the Hawks probably would never had made it to Atlanta they would likely still be in Milwaukee.
