Dallas Stars, 2019-20.

Decided to do 2 seasons back to back as my offence is struggling and there is a franchise sniper in the 2020 draft....speed season!

Transactions:

DAL picked up D - Patrick Wiercioch off waivers from Ottawa.

TRADE DEADLINE:

To Phoenix Coyotes:
LW - Shane Loyns
RW - Matt Bellerive
D - Patrick Wiercioch
2020 3rd Round Pick
2025 4th Round Pick

To Dallas Stars:
RW - Connor Chartier

Analysis:
A scoring depth move, Chartier has 48 goals and 95 points in 134 career games. Will play top 6 for a while, until Bobby Ryan returns from injury, and may stick if he performs well. Gave up some good organizational depth guys, but no main roster players, so a solid deal for my team.

To Boston Bruins:
G - Brandon Stone
C - Kurt Regher
LW - Christophe Lalonde
D - Harold Tripp

To Dallas Stars:
G - Tristan Jarry
D - Sergej Pushkarev

Analysis:
This move was to get defensive depth at the NHL level to replace what we lost with Wierchioch. Pushkarev is a 6'10" Russian bear. With great strength, solid speed and excellent defensive stats, he is a perfect fit for my d-core, which has played most of the season with 1 or 2 guys on the IR. Jarry and Stone had to be swapped for cap reasons, same overalls though, and Lalonde, Tripp and Regher were AHL prospects, so again, the NHL team goes away unharmed.

END OF REGULAR SEASON:

A great turn around for our offence compared to last season has us sitting 4th in the NHL and 2nd in the Western Conference once again. Not quite the Presidents Trophy of 2 seasons ago, but that's not what we came for.

Record: 51-26-5 (4th in NHL)
3.57 Goals For Per Game (1st in NHL)
2.76 Goals Against PEr Game (12th in NHL)
18.9% Powerplay Efficiency (8th in NHL)
81.9% Penalty Kill Efficiency (18th in NHL)

PLAYOFFS:

Round 1 vs. Los Angeles Kings:

Game 1: 3-2 OT Win.
(Chartier injured; Ryan in)
Game 2: 2-3 Loss.
Game 3: 1-2 Loss.
Game 4: 0-5 Loss.
Game 5: 3-2 OT Win.
(Chartier in; Peckham out)
Game 6: 3-1 Win.
Game 7: 3-2 Double OT Win.

4-3 Series Win.

A tough series for the team, we managed to pull through and move on to the 2nd round. Hopefully we can find some more offence again, as it seems to be the heart of the teams success.

Round 2 vs. Phoenix Coyotes:

Game 1: 4-5 Loss.
Game 2: 1-2 Loss.
Game 3: 7-4 Win.
Game 4: 2-4 Loss.
Game 5: 4-1 Win.
Game 6: 3-2 OT Win.
(Hilbert injured; Pushkarev in)
Game 7: 4-0 Win.

Another tight series, Bobby Ryan and Trent Lofthouse really carried the team through it. Finally though, Nishi gets a shutout and is starting to play better.

Western Conference Finals vs. Edmonton Oilers:

Game 1: 4-1 Win.
Game 2: 4-3 OT Win.
Game 3: 1-2 Double OT Loss.
(Hauf injured; Pageau in)
Game 4: 7-2 Win.
Game 5: 1-0 Win.

4-1 Series Win.

Well, it's been a long 5 season's, but we've made the Stanley Cup Finals! Bobby Ryan has a very impressive 17 goals so far through 18 games. The veteran seems to think this is his best shot at another cup or something.

Stanley Cup Finals vs. New Jersey Devils:

Game 1: 5-2 Win.
Game 2: 3-0 Win.
Game 3: 2-3 Loss.
Game 4: 2-3 Double OT Loss.
Game 5: 2-6 Loss.
(Hilbert in; Pageau out)
Game 6: 4-1 Win.
(Hilbert injured; Pageau in)
Game 7: 4-5 OT Loss.

Well, a very disappointing result in the end, but we will take away the positives, that we made it to OT of game 7 with our very young team. Hopefully next season, with more experience for our d-core, we will be even stronger.

Stanley Cup Champions:
New Jersey Devils

A salary dump, it hurts to lose Ruter, who was a really good undrafted player for me, but with my forward depth it was needed so I could re-sign Pushkarev to a deal for this season.
