Dallas Stars, 2017-18
Posted on July 11, 2012 at 03:32 PM.
After a continued rebuilding process last season, the team has some new faces. The starting Roster is just a starting one, I have a lot of players who will fit into the line-up if some guys struggle. This is the year I found out who is legit and who is a pretender.

Dallas Stars Depth Chart - 2017-18

D #2Braydon Coburn (90)Joseph Hilbert (83)Ray Stillman (81)

No depth charts this year, I went ahead in the season and did too many moves, so it is kind of pointless now.

Transactions:

Waivers:

DAL claimed RW Dario Simion off waivers from ANA

Trade:

To Winnipeg Jets:
RW - Daniel Mannberg
D - Matt Pelech

To Dallas Stars:
LW - Gabriel Pushor
2018 4th Round Pick

Analysis:
At 20 years old, Pushor is leading the AHL in points at the time of this trade. He is a big bodied forward who has tons of room to grow. Mannberg and Pelech were both going to struggling cracking the line-up with our depth.

Waivers:

DAL claims RW - Ryan Callahan off waivers from NYR

Trade Deadline:

To Edmonton Oilers:

RW - Jordan Poirier

To Dallas Stars:
D - Samuel Robert
LW - Kurt Etchegary
RW - Justin Michalski

Analysis:
Poirier was really struggling this season, and was a healthy scratch on numerous occasions, so I felt it was time to move him when his trade value was high. Coming back is Samuel Robert, a good all around defensive prospect who was actually playing with Edmonton this season. With all the injuries my d-core has been taking, it really improves our depth. Etchegary was a highly touted prospect in 2014, and while he is 23 now, can still make the NHL next season hopefully in a filler role. Michalski is 6'5" and a sniper RW. At 20 years old, he won't crack the line-up this season, but definitely has a shot to in the future and will be a force to be reckoned with.

Waivers:

DAL claimed LW - Wotjek Wolski off waivers from FLA

End of Regular Season:

Record: 52-24-6 (1st in NHL)
2.95 Goals For Per Game (5th in NHL)
2.44 Goals Against Per Game (3rd in NHL)
16.5% Powerplay Efficiency (16th in NHL)
84.2% Penalty Kill Efficiency (12th in NHL)

Round 1 vs. Los Angeles Kings:

Game 1: 3-0 Win.
Game 2: 2-0 Win.
Game 3: 2-1 Win.
(Andersen and Hacker in; Robert and Boyce-Rotevall out)
Game 4: 5-3 Win.

4-0 Series Win.

Michael Nishi was very strong in the series, with a .964% and 1.01 GAA. Alan Caldwell and Loui Eriksson paced the offence with 4 points each. Strong series, Top point scorer Bobby Ryan needing more production though.

Round 2 vs. Phoenix Coyotes:

Game 1: 1-0 Win.
Game 2: 1-4 Loss.
Game 3: 2-1 Win.
Game 4: 4-3 Win.
Game 5: 2-0 Win.
(Eriksson out; Wilson in)

4-1 Series Win.

A strong series by Nishi and Bobby Ryan, but losing Eriksson for the next round could be tough. Hopefully our inexperience doesn't hurt us.

Western Conference Finals vs. Chicago Blackhawks:

Game 1: 1-4 Loss.
Game 2: 4-3 Loss.
(Hilbert in; Orpik out)
Game 3: 1-2 Loss.
Game 4: 3-5 Loss.
Game 5: 2-3 Loss.

1-4 Series Loss.

A tough series for us offensively, our inexperience in the playoffs seems to have effected some guys. Next season we will be stronger and older though, and we have high hopes moving forward that the beginning of the dynasty years isn't far away.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Trades:

To New York Rangers:

D - Joonas Valkonen
RW - Dario Simion

To Dallas Stars:

D - Michel Pageau

Analysis:
A cost cutting deal, Pageau is a big defensive prospect at 22 years old, 6'4", 210 lbs. With C-,A,A- potential, he projects to be a shut down d-man in the NHL by next season. Should start in the AHL.

--------------------

To Winnipeg Jets:
D - Braydon Coburn
2024 1st Round Pick
2024 2nd Round Pick
2024 3rd Round Pick
2024 4th Round Pick

To Dallas Stars:
C - Dave Pardy
2019 1st Round Pick

Analysis:
Dave Pardy, 23, is a towering centerman at 6'5", 212 lbs. A player with a complete all around game, he had 16 points in 79 games playing on Winnipeg's fourth line. He is expected to battle with Victor Trevelyan for the 2nd line center position. The first was required for cap purposes in my next deal.

---------------------

To Philadelphia Flyers:
C - Alex Galchenyuk
D - David Musil
LW - Kurt Etchegary
2019 1st Round Pick

To Dallas Stars:
D - Graham Doell
D - Jan Kostalek
RW - Eric Ming

Analysis:
Graham Doell, 21, was the 2nd pick behind Joseph Hilbert in the 2015 draft, is an elite offensive defenceman. At 6'5", 209 lbs, he also brings a fairly decent physical game with him. He will be in the top 4 d-pairings this season, either with former World Junior teammate Hilbert or Christopher Hacker.

Jan Kostalek is 23 and 6'3", 187 lbs. A pure defensive defenceman, will be battling with Stillman and Robert for the 5th and 6th d-pairings.

Eric Ming is a 25 year old two way forward. He brings a good speed and defensive element, but has never played an NHL game so far. Will start in the AHL, but solid performance and potential injuries could see him fill in on a bottom 6 role.

# 1 Zweihander @ Jul 18
Hopefully you can finally take them, even with all the injuries to the D. Big move trading Poirier, former top 10 pick? Right?

# 2 Bloop33 @ Jul 18
Former #1 pick in 2012 yes. He just wasn't working for me, had only 9 points or so in 43 games and was a -6. With so many guys battling for ice time, I figured I might as well move him rather than waste him.
