As you can see, I've made almost complete changes to most of my line-up. The emergence of franchise-level defenceman Christopher Hacker, as well as many of my long-time prospects has made this season kind of a completion of my rebuild. I kept some veterans of course, but 8 players in total are in their rookie season. While most teams with 8 rookies might not expect much, my guys are built so well for my defensive style team that I am expecting not only to make playoffs this season, but contend for my second Stanley Cup as GM of the Dallas Stars.
I will play 30-40 regular season games, at home, this year, to get a feel for what I like and what I feel needs a change, I will sim all road games and all home games I don't really want to play.

Analysis:
Dropped what were essentially 4 slow B prospects who would likely never suit up regularly for me, for a speedy two way forward who is only 22 years old with A,B-,B- potential and can suit up immediately for the NHL team. I had noticed many of my prospects weren't growing very much in speed, and I need speed to play my style of game, so needed and upgrade. In the end, a solid trade for the Stars.

To Toronto Maple Leafs:
D - Carlo Colaiacovo
C - Daniel Pribyl
D - Ayrton Nikkel
C - John McFarland
C - Brad Richardson
To Dallas Stars:
LW - Jason Houde
Analysis:
Again, moving some 'B' prospects in order to upgrade the NHL team. Colaiacovo and Richardson were both being scratched in the NHL and served no ultimate purpose on my team, so were thrown in. Jason Houde is 23 years old, 6'2", 200 lbs, has speed, strength and ability at both ends of the ice. He is in his rookie season and had 2 points in 7 games for Toronto. While we don't expect him to save our woeful offence, a solid plus season along with 25-35 points would be ideal.

To New York Islanders:
D - Nick Schultz
RW - Sven Andreghetto
C - Daniel Pribyl
To Dallas Stars:
LW - Nino Niederreiter
LW - Matt Moulson
RW - Nathan Mackinnon
Analysis:
With the Kuptsov experiment not working very well, I've decided to go for it. With Bryan Allen waiting to get into the line-up, giving up Schultz is an easier decision than it would have been. In Andreghetto, I give up a good up and coming defensive forward, but I have quite a few of those now so he is expendable. In Nino and Moulson, I have a chance to really improve my offence. Moulson is getting older, but can still produce in a depth position and Nino has 7 points in 9 games so far this season, but is currently injured for another week. With him, I give the top 6 another offensive threat, and will ease some of the pressure Couturier has gotten to produce this season.
Trade Deadline:
To St. Louis Blues:
LW - Nino Niederreiter
RW - Sergej Kuptsov
D - Dillon Heatherington
G - Justin Peters
To Dallas Stars:
G - Niklas Lundstrom
RW - Daniel Mannberg
RW - Kim Sundstrom
Analysis:
Not a major move really, since both Nino and Kuptsov played so bad they were sitting. Peters was struggling so getting Lundstrom should help out Nishi as we head tenatively towards playoffs. The move allows me to give a few more young guys a shot to fill in on injuries, and see what I have for next season.
For the most part, we are on the edge of playoffs, but are so inconsistent that we probably won't go deep even if we make it. Decided to fill some holes and add some prospects like Mannberg and Sundstrom to be stronger next season.
3/20/2017:
DAL Claims G - John Chartrand off waivers from OTT.
End of Regular Season:
39-33-10 Record (8th in Western Conference)
2.96 Goals For Per Game (8th in NHL)
2.90 Goals Against Per Game (19th in NHL)
22.0% Powerplay Efficiency (2nd in NHL)
80.4% Penalty Kill Efficiency (19th in NHL)
Wow! what a crazy season. At the deadline we had almost accepted that we were going to miss the playoffs. with 12 games left, we lossed 3 of 4 games and were basically dead. In our last 9 games though, we won 7 games, and despite losing our final game, somehow managed to make the playoffs by 1 point! Pontus Aberg was instrumental in the comeback, as well as rookie call-ups from the AHL team, Joseph Hilbert and Payton Ruter. Both rookies will remain on the team for playoffs.
PLAYOFFS:
Round 1 vs. Vancouver Canucks:
Game 1: 2-3 OT Loss.
Game 2: 1-3 Loss.
(Wilson and Corriveau out, Houde and Proft in)
Game 3: 3-2 Win.
Game 4: 4-3 Double OT Win.
Game 5: 3-2 Win.
(Loui Eriksson injured, Wilson in)
Game 6: 2-4 Loss.
(Galchenyuk out, Molin in)
Game 7: 4-3 OT Win!
4-3 Series Win
A crazy series, took some big injuries but luckily, Payton Ruter, who only has 2 regular season games of experience, showed up in a huge way, 7 points in 7 games, including the overtime winner of game 7. Huge series for the undrafted 23 year old.
Round 2 vs. St. Louis Blues:
Game 1: 2-4 Loss.
Game 2: 1-3 Loss.
Game 3: 4-2 Win.
(Nishi out, Lundstrom starting, Chartrand back-up)
Game 4: 2-3 Loss.
Game 5: 3-4 Loss.
1-4 Series Loss.
A tough series to begin with, with the injuries to some top forwards became much harder with Michael Nishi going down. Niklas Lundstrom tried his best, but playing against a team he was #4 on the depth charts for, he just couldn't make all the saves needed. Some positives though, as we know our young players can compete. Just have to stay healthier come playoff time.

Trade:
To Boston Bruins:

2023 3rd Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
C - Sebastian Svendsen
Analysis:
Last years AHL point leader and goal leader likely won't get much of a shot with the Bruins next season, so I'll allow the 25 year old Dane to try-out for my NHL squad since I'll accept the best available player this season. If he doesn't make it, he'll at least add some good offence to a struggling AHL team.
Signings:
RW - Dimitri Tolpeko (22 years old, 76 overall, A-,B-,B) 3 seasons, $0.540M.
Trade:
To Boston Bruins:
G - John Chartrand
2023 2nd Round Pick
2023 4th Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
G - Corbin Boes
G - Brandon Stone
Analysis:
With a bit more goalies than needed at too high of a cost, Trading Chartrand at ~$2.500M per season for Boes and Stone, both 80+ goalies, who cost a combined $1.050M, is a financial move. Getting Chartrands potential was a big thing for Boston's end, but with Nishi and Lundstrom, we felt it was affordable.
Signings:
D - Matt Pelech (29 years old, 82 overall, C-,C,C) 1 season, $1.650M.
D - Brooks Orpik (36 years old, 85 overall, D-,D,D-) 1 season, $2.885M.
D - Toni Thoresen (23 years old, 80 overall, C,B-,C-) 3 seasons, $0.525M.

Where it Says Shot is that their overall and the Chart Just wont put ovr? I noticed Bogosian has the same overall as his shot so it got me wondering, Nice Team looks Defencive not so much offencive i also noticed u have a 82 in net why is that?

Yeah, I use shot for overall, I figure people are more interested in a guys overall than which way they shoot. lol.
As for the goaltending, Luongo retired, so Nishi and Peters were the best I had signed, and in the offseason, the best available Free Agent was an 83 overall Peter Budaj. I figured I'd rather give my top prospect goaltender the starting job rather than hire an old guy with little to no future with the team. I also didn't want to trade away some of my prospects for a higher rated goalie. I figure my team is strong enough defensively, it makes up for the low overall.

Nice depth additions, your kind of players too. Hopefully Loui and the rest can score for you this season

Well, I didn't realize the post I last commented on wasn't the most recent. Hacker looks good, although I would be somewhat disappointed with C C C potential, but that doesn't mean he won't be a future Norris winner. You've got tons of depth and potential. I wish my team could have some form of depth instead of a 12 OVR depth discrepancy between my top two lines.

Oh lol. Yeah, Hacker is a solid d-man, but my real top defensive prospect is definitely Joseph Hilbert currently developing in the AHL. He's bigger, younger with more potential. A true stud-to-be.
As for my depth, yeah, I typically like having as much depth as possible, as I don't usually get too many 50 goal scorers. I also use the most defensive strategies possible, as I like to build my team from the goal out.

Nice lineup, team looks great and will be for a long time. I was burnt out of playing NHL lol maybe I will be back on here in a few weeks. Have fun!

I wondered where you went lol. I am almost the same, I throw the occasional MLB 11 game in, but now with 2 really fun dynasty's (Dallas and Tampa) I'm able to keep my attention quite easy.

Shame Nishi got hurt in the playoffs, even with the other injuries, you probably had a shot at a 2nd cup.
