Bloop33's Blog
Well, was talking to my friend who also uses this forum to post his GM Modes now, and we decided we'd both start a new GM Mode for the first time so I'm not starting off with completely random players. I am starting out in complete rebuild, my goal is to make playoffs within 3 seasons, but also acquire many picks and prospects to hopefully win the cup by 2015. I don't like to do fake trades, so I believe all I do is realistic.
I've edited some future prospects, so top players go in the first round or two instead of undrafted. I've also tried to get all the trades done since the end of playoffs in so that guys like Wideman are on their proper team.
For the record, Gm setting is on hard, and I play on superstar.
Will be simming quite a bit, but will play playoffs and 5-10 games per season, to keep it going fast.

Trade Alert:
Within days of joining the team, the new Stars GM made his first big, and somewhat surprising splash on the team.
To Columbus Blue Jackets:
LW - Jamie Benn
D - Sheldon Souray
To Dallas Stars:
RW - Rick Nash
Analysis:
I gave up a young powerforward in Benn, but got a more experience scorer in Nash. Maybe I overpaid a little bit, but early on I want big forwards who can bury the puck into the net, and who will be able to carry my young team going forward. Souray is not a player I like too much, so giving him up wasn't hard.
To Anaheim Ducks:
LW - Brenden Morrow
RW - Michael Ryder
LW Steve Ott
2013 2nd Round Pick
2014 1st Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
RW - Bobby Ryan
D - Luca Sbisa
2012 1st Round Pick
Analysis:
Another move to make the team younger, but also have more top end talent. The 2012 1st Rounder will help me get a top talent quickly, and while I lose two future picks, getting a young defenceman like Sbisa should help solidify the back-end for a few seasons.
To Phoenix Coyotes:
D - Stephane Robidas
2012 3rd Round Pick
2013 4th Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
C - Martin Hanzal
Analysis:
Martin Hanzal has a huge body and is a very skilled player. Hopefully he will center the 1st or 2nd line depending on the rest of the moves I do.
To St. Louis Blues:
D - Alex Goligoski
C - Vern Fiddler
2012 2nd Round Pick (LA)
To Dallas Stars:
C - Patrick Berglund
D - Kris Russell
C - Vladimir Sobotka
Analysis:
This one was simple for me. I prefer defensive defencemen and two-way defencemen over offensive defencemen. I needed a top 2 line center, and St. Louis has a surplus of centermen. Russell fills in nicely into the defensive core, he is a good young defenceman who will be solid defensively.
To New Jersey Devils:
G - Jack Campbell
RW - Radek Dvorak
2013 3rd Round Pick
2014 4th Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
C - Adam Henrique
D - Reece Scarlett
C - Jacob Josefson
D - Mark Fayne
G - Scott Wedgewood
Analysis:
This trade is more to set myself up for another one, but the Devils need a goalie for the future, and I figure Lehtonen is young enough for me to wait until I draft one for myself. The key players coming back are Henrique and Fayne, who will both be in the NHL this season.
To Philadelphia Flyers:
C - Scott Glennie
2012 2nd Round Pick
2013 2nd Round Pick
2014 2nd Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
LW - Sean Couturier
Analysis: Scott Glennie is a 20 year old prospect who didn't fit the mold of player I want on this team, moving him and a bunch of 2nd's for Couturier really adds some size to the 3rd or 2nd line, wherever he winds up. At 18 years old, Sean will be on the team immediately and will really help if we wind up with a chance at playoffs.
Free Agency:
D - Bryan McCabe
RW - Robert Nilsson
D - Justin Schultz

Well, it was a busy offseason for the Dallas Stars. Acquiring numerous young players and some 1st Rounders has the fans and GM looking forward to the future, but there is also some optimism about the current season as some big time stars have joined the team. With $10 million in cap space left, we have the potential to make some big moves later in the season if we want, and if we have to, we can unload some more players for picks.
Trade Alert:
To Washington Capitals:
D - Bryan McCabe
D - Reece Scarlett
2017 1st Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
D - Karl Alzner
Analysis:
Well, my defence has struggled this season, with injuries and everything, so after the All-Star Game, I've gone out and acquired Karl Alzner. McCabe was struggling, and with other guys like Sbisa and Russell able to quarter back the PP, he became expendable.
BLOCK BUSTER MOVE
To Winnipeg Jets:
RW - Rick Nash
D - Trevor Daley
D - Kris Russell
2013 1st Rounder
2015 1st Rounder
To Dallas Stars:
LW - Evander Kane
D - Zach Bogosian
D - Ron Hainsey
Analysis: Well, the season is basically over for the Dallas Stars at this point. 1 week before the trade deadline and we have a 22-33-4 record. Not enough emphasis on defence. When Loui Eriksson went down with injury, it was time to start looking forward. The biggest problem this season was we had no true sniper on the team. Ryan and Nash scored over 20 goals each, but there was no secondary scoring and we've lost around 10 games without scoring a goal. Originally I just wanted a middle line-up sniper, but when I saw I had an opportunity to get Evander Kane, I had to take it. To make it work, I needed to ship Daley and get some return, so added in Russell and Nash along with the first rounders, then got Bogosian thrown in as well as Ron Hainsey for cap purposes. In the end, the Nash/Ryan experiment failed, Ryan was the better goal scorer, younger and cheaper, and both Daley and Russell were heavy minus' this season. I may have overpaid once again to get my guys, but they are 20 and 21, respectively, and help me to build a cornerstone for my franchise to build around, along with Couturier, Ryan and Eriksson.
Stanley Cup Champions:
Nashville Predators
Deadline Day:
To New York Rangers:
D - Ron Hainsey
RW - Robert Nilsson
2013 3rd Round Pick
To Dallas Stars:
D - Marc Staal.
Analysis:
Well, I want to be a solid defensive club going into next season, so figured I'd move an aging defender who I probably won't re-sign, as well as a 3rd line winger, for a guy who can help be a cornerstone moving forward. The Rangers get a depth forward for their playoff push, which is one of their needs, and also a serviceable defenceman to play some hard minutes. Win-Win, I believe.
To Chicago Blackhawks:
2017 3rd Round Pick
RW - Tomas Vincour
To Dallas Stars:
D - Nick Leddy
Analysis:
With 1 hour to go, Chicago offered me this deal. It was an offer I couldn't pass up. A good puck moving defenceman for an offensively struggling team. Also gives a little depth to finish the year and allows me to get rid of some veterans I still have.
Well, after a disapointing season, we head into the 2012 Entry Draft needing to really fix the team. We plan to add a lot of young talent to develop with the high picks we have, as well as some veterans to fill in some roles in the NHL to keep the team competitive next season. Luckily, we had planned to be a team who struggled. It's all about being competitive in 3 seasons, and with the young talent we have, that is certainly within reach.

C - Zac Dalpe
1st Overall Pick: RW - Jordan Poirier

Round 2:
No Picks
Round 3:
Trade D - Leddy to Buffalo for 64th and 84th overall picks
64th pick: D - Steven Trojanovic
84th pick: D - Myles Bell
Round 4:
Trade C - Josefson to Washington for 105th and 107th overall picks
105th pick: LW - Reid Boucher
107th pick: D - Joonas Valkonen
Round 5:
Trade Brendan Dillon for 123rd and 132nd overall picks
121st pick: D - Derek Pouliot
123rd pick: D - Otto Jaksch
132nd pick: D - Michal Gutwald
149th pick: C - Brendan Gaunce
