Carroll's Post Game Notes
Positives
Marcus Trufant - 2 INT, TD. Played dominantly all night shutting down his receiver, and picking off 2 of the 3 passes thrown his way
Defensive Line - The D-Line impressed yet again, with Brandon Lebane disrupting plays in the backfield, and Chris Clemons stepping up to the plate and showing he could end up as a starter on the way to recording 2 sacks including a safety. Oh yeah, he forced a fumble as well. Nice.
Earl Thomas - The rookie showed some smarts today. He did a nice job knocking Greg Jennings out of bounds with the ball rather than getting beat going for the pick. He also made a nice play sacking Aaron Rodgers on a blitz. Jordan Babineaux played very nicely as well, and that's a relief, as he will be playing at strong safety until at least Week 7 due to Lawyer Milloy tearing his bicep.
Negatives
Offensive Line - Something needs to be done here, fast. The line looked weak yet again, giving our running backs no hope. I know the Packers have a strong front 7, but that is no excuse for the amount of men our backs had to take on in the backfield. Put this along with 3 sacks and it tells the tale of the game.
Running Game - Please see above...
Anaemic Offence - 28th in the League. We will have another strong test up against the Vikings D-Line, and whilst starters normally play the whole of the 3rd game, I can't risk losing Hasselbeck. A lot of hard work to be done this week.

Carroll's Post Game Notes
A hard fought game against a good Tennessee team, and I liked the heart we showed coming back into this one. Results don't bother me too much in preseason, so I'm not going to focus on the game in my notes, just the positives and negatives to build upon.
Positives
David Hawthorne - The 6'0" 246lb LB entering his 3rd year in the league stepped up and showed exactly what he has to offer this season. He swarmed to the ball all over the pitch, shed blocks, and made tackles. He has turned what was previously Leroy Hill's OLB spot into a real competition, and Hawthorne is the front runner
Defensive Line - The D-Line as a whole played well getting good penetration, particularly big Brandon Lebane who ended the day with 2 sacks
Leon Washington - 100 yards in a game is impressive, but 100 yards after 3 carries is even better. He showed his blazing pace breaking a simple draw play for an 89 yard score to level the game, and followed this up with a 45 yard run on his next carry. The early front runner to lead the three-headed monster
Negatives
Lofa Tatupu - Tore his abdominal early on, and will miss the rest of the preseason. He is the heart of our D, and we have to hope he is not rusty for his return Week 1. However, this allowed David Hawthorne to step up and perform.
Offensive Line - All 3 quarterbacks were under heavy pressure all game, and the backs often got little to work with. Couple this with the fact that there were 3 holding calls costing us crucial field position means we have a long way to go in three weeks.
Quarterback Play - None of the 3 had a QB rating of above 50, and Whitehurst looked like a deer in the headlights up against the Tennessee rush. After giving up a 2nd round pick for him, I expect more. We picked up Colt in free agency and look to test him more as the preseason goes on.
Authors Note: I will be providing detailed summary of regular season games, but will be focusing more around storylines and performance throughout preseason
HB
Justin Forsett vs. Leon Washington vs. Julius Jones
Whilst there will most likely be a lot of sharing carries the Seahawks are surely hoping that one of their backs steps forward over preseason and cements themselves as the #1 in the system
WR
Mike Williams vs. Deion Branch vs. Deon Butler vs. Golden Tate
Of these 4 evenly matched recievers, one of them will end the preseason disappointed in the 4th wide reciever role, which will leave them missing from most offensive packages. It will be interesting to see how possibly the most physically gifted reciever of the 3, Mike Williams, responds after 2 years out of football.
DE
Raheem Brock & Red Bryant vs. Chris Clemons
Whilst Brock and Bryant currently occupy the starting jobs, the new acquisition from the Eagles has impressed throughout training camp and a strong preseason could see him get the nod on opening day.
SS
Lawyer Milloy vs. Jordan Babineaux
Milloy is looking to end his career on a high at the age of 35, wheras Babineaux is looking to establish his name within the league. One of these will get to play alongside the exciting talent that is Earl Thomas, and it seems fairly evenly balanced as we head into preseason.

2009 Offseason
After a disappointing 5-11 season under the reign of Jim Mora, the Seahawks have cleaned slate and are looking to build up and return the their former success, as opposed to drifting along in mediocrity. They bought in a new head coach in Pete Carroll, returning back to the NFL after spending 9 successful but highly controversial years in the NCAA system with the USC Trojans, and is looking to put the questions with Reggie Bush & al behind him.
Whilst Carroll is a prestigious coach, he is coming into Seattle with a chip on his shoulder and many already calling for his head. L.A. Times sportswriter Bill Plaschke, said that in one stroke, Carroll went "from a coach who presided over the greatest days in USC football history to one who was in charge of its biggest embarrassment. He goes from saint to scallywag. Sporting News writer Mike Florio called for the Seahawks to fire Carroll, saying that "justice won't truly be served until the only coaching Carroll ever does entails holding an Xbox controller."
Going along with the theme of wiping the slate clean and starting afresh, with the exceptions of Gus Bradley (DC) and Dan Quinn (Defensive Line), none of the coaches from Mora's tenure will be returning. Carroll’s right hand man from USC, Jeremy Bates, also moved north and is now the Offensive Coordinator. Continuing the theme, highly respected former USC Offensive Line coach Pat Ruel is now also a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
From the moment Carroll stepped through the door, he looked to build the program with an ‘out with the old, in with the young’ mentality, and this is shown in the fact that the Seahawks are the last team in the NFL in terms of returning veterans from last year. Among the departing players are WR Nate Burleson, QB Seneca Wallace, OG Rob Sims, FB Owen Schmitt and WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Put along with this the retirements of DE Rob Kerney, and 4-Time All Pro OT Walter Jones and you can see the direction this time appears to be headed.
When players leave, their spots have to be filled and there were some very wily acquisition made by Pete Carroll and the front office, who are more used to recruiting than preparing contracts. They picked up young QB Charlie Whitehurst, Pro Bowler Leon Washington, and perhaps the most intriguing of all, troubled former first round wide reciever (from you guessed it, USC) who has been out of football for 2 years Mike Williams.
Not only were there some nice FA pickups and trades, but they also picked up 3 potential starters in the draft, with OT Russell Okung, S Earl Thomas, and WR Golden Tate. They also acquired young talent to develop, with 5 players taken in round 4 or later making the 53 man roster and should be looking to contribute as the year passes by.
With all the changes in Seattle this year nobody knows what to expect out of this intriguing team. I think it is fitting to close off the same way Coach Carroll closed off the first day of training camp;
‘Hold on tight boys, we’re in for a wild ride’
