The NFL regular season is upon us as the Oakland Raiders head to Foxboro to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Thursday night.

There is not shortage of storylines heading into the season, but here are a few to keep an eye on as we kick off the season.

Last chance for Super Bowl in Denver for Romo?

Denver gave up a bounty of picks and promising young QB Trevor Siemian to acquire the veteran Romo in a trade during the offseason. GM/President John Elway knows the time is now for the Broncos and their window for another championship is closing, but is Romo is the answer? Only time will tell if the star quarterback can remain healthy enough to lead the Broncos in what should be one of the most competitive divisions in the AFC West. Denver kicks off the season with a road game in New York against the Jets.

Dawning of a new era in New England

Future hall of famer Tom Brady called it quits after capturing his 5th Super Bowl title this past offseason. The Patriots legend holds nearly every franchise record. So where do the Patriots go from here? Well it seems that Jimmy Garrapollo will get his shot to take the reigns early in the season, with second year QB Jacoby Brissett not far behind him. Could this be a transition year for the Patriots? One thing is for sure, if HC Bill Belechick can have this team contending without Brady, he is truly the greatest coach of all time. New England faces Oakland on Thursday night to open the season.

Chargers debut season in L.A.

After over 50 years in San Diego, the Chargers are returning to where their franchise was born in Los Angeles. With the Rams making the move last season we now have two franchises in the City of Angels. If anything it will be interesting to see how it all plays out as the Rams and Chargers duel for L.A. supremacy.
