Georgia State Gets Signature Win Over Troy

There wasn't much to be excited about heading into this game after last week's shellacking by Alabama but the Panthers offense finally came together the way offensive coordinator Zach Fanko thought it would at the beginning of the season as Georgia State pulled off a stunning upset of Troy to kickoff the Sun Belt season.

Starting HB Gerald Howse went down with a concussion early in the 1st quarter but back-up Travis Evans came in and showed his coaches why he might be the best back on the team. A 117 yard day along with a signature TD on an option play late in the game that put the Panthers up for good. Sophomore QB Ronnie Bell's first start wasn't spectacular(17-30, 191 Yds, 2 INTs) but the young QB made some big throws when he had to and showed the athleticism to make plays when the pocket was breaking down.

The Trojans had a shot to tie the game following a Brandon Burks TD run with 1:27 left but the 2-point conversion that followed failed but Troy was able to get the ball back once again as Georgia State was unable to run out the clock. QB Corey Robinson guided the Trojans all the way down the field to the 23 yard line with 3 seconds left but this would not be Robinson's day as his errant pass was deflected and fell incomplete.

Georgia State will leave the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome as they travel to Texas State to face the Bobcats next week.
