FSC - Week 10, 11, 12 RTTS
Posted on April 1, 2009 at 06:18 PM.
Well, it's been a while since I posted an update, mainly because I've been too busy, but now that I have time, I'm dropping a three-week post here.

Weeks 10, 11, and 12 - Falling on Hard Times (June 11 to July 1)

Week 10:
Portland Planet: "Sea Dogs Victorious, 5-2"
Injury puts damper on comeback win
Cal Johnson - June 17, 2009

Call them the comeback kids. In what is considered a lost season for the Sea Dogs, they came back against the Seawolves to earn the victory.

After falling behind 2-1, the Sea Dogs were able to muster some offense against Seawolves starter Danys Brito. Leading the offensive charge for the night was catcher Ryan Evans, who went 2-4 with 3 RBIs. Starter Dong-Uk Ku was the beneficiary of the late-game surge, earning the victory after pitching seven innings, allowing just two runs.

However, the Sea Dogs will be without outfielder Rob Knowles for the a couple of days after he came out of the game with an injury with forearm tightness.

The Sea Dogs will play game two of the series tonight.

Week 11
Portland Planet: "Circus Act"
Knowles Irks Manager With Shenanigans in Loss
Cal Johnson - June 22, 2009

Last night's game certainly had its moments, despite Portland losing 5-4 to the Akron Aeros.

In his second game back from injury, outfielder Rob Knowles put on a show worth coming to the ballpark for to see. It was also a show that would make everyone in the stadium scratch their heads and ask "why is this guy even playing?"

In the bottom of the first inning, Knowles prolonged the inning back making Aeros starter Kirk Pace attempt over twenty pickoff throws to first. The catch? It was runners on first and second. By the end of the inning, Knowles's jersey was the dirtiest on the field, I'm sure the equipment guy isn't going to be pleased with that.

Knowles did come through in the clutch, driving a 2-rbi triple in the bottom of the ninth off of Aeros closer Jan Platt to tie the game at 4-4. However, that was undone in the top of tenth as Knowles from right field dove in the outfielder from a ground ball, allowing it to scoot by him for a triple that ended up leading to the go-ahead run.

Manager Arnie Beyeler wasn't too pleased, but could sympathize, "Baseball is a long season and where we are right now is probably not where these kids wanted to be in the standings. I'm just guessing that he [Knowles] wanted to freshen things up and ultimately it cost us the game."
