Week 5 - AA Portland "A Year Older."

Portland - There weren't any presents or cakes at the stadium yesterday. Wine bottles? Maybe. For Rob Knowles, he gave himself a present in the form of a memorable performance against the New Britain Rock Cats.

In his first at-bat, Knowles hit a howitzer shot down the left field line and easily reached second while driving in the game's first run. He topped his performance with a couple of singles, one of them driving in the game-tying run in the ninth, and a key throw from the outfield that helped nail a runner and prematurely-ended a Rock Cats rally. His final offensive line for the day? 3-6 with a double and two runs driven in. The only blemish was a strikeout and a face full of whipped cream.

"I nearly asked for the day off," said the now 19 years old Knowles, "I'm glad I didn't. Even if it wasn't my birthday, you're always hoping to go out there and give your best performance on the field."
